Twilight Serenade

When I was younger, I imagined life would present a few major, yet basic crossroads. Of course, there have been many crossroads encountered since then…Life is filled with countless decisions and changes.  Some crossroads are obvious; others, not so much, and this can produce some significant stress until a choice has been made. Even after making a decision, doubt can linger: Was it the right path? Of course, only time will tell, but all crossroads, taken or missed, can still provide us with valuable life lessons and personal growth. 

This composition offers a glimpse into the crossroads we encounter in our lives, and the inner turmoil that may accompany the decision-making process.  As the piece nears the end, a very subtle change signals a decision and movement toward resolution.

This afternoon I found myself wondering why I compose, and perhaps more specifically why I put my creations "out there".  I felt a little lost.  So I sat down at the piano, determined to reconnect with the little girl that I once was.  A little girl who used to call for her school friend....just because that friend happened to have a piano.  A little girl who sat and "played" that piano for many hours, without any real idea of what she was doing.  Just enjoying putting her hands on the keys and making patterns with sound.

The result is this little piece called "Why" and it is pretty much what I guess you would call an impromptu.  Composed in a short amount of time with minimal refinement.  It was important in this case not to self scrutinise or ask for external opinion.  Just create, enjoy........and share.

An orchestral cry of rebellion, a fierce uprising against despair. 
But the strength is fleeting— and the music collapses back into itself, like a wave that rose too high, only to break in silence.

Headed home after a wonderful trip to Florence in Italy. This piece reflects my current mood. I met a lot of new people and I took a lot of photos. This music is a spontaneous improvisation. Recorded at my personal recording studio at home. Please enjoy.
