I once made a play out of this song at church !! I made all the little Sunday School kids costumes and made them march around the church..I had a dark scary looking creature.... I had warriors and soldiers...someone who needed to be rescued...

I wrote this while living in Florida... Hurricanes scared me half to death !! I could only imagine how one would feel the loss of a loved one caused by such a storm...

To watch the barns as they get old.

We would take long drives down old country roads,

Stop and take a picture and then we’d go.

Loving hands have drawn attention to some,

Painted new roofs and boards re-hung.

But mostly I noticed the barns falling down,

A picture of beauty there on the ground.

It was just a normal day, I was minding my business.
Then I heard shots, I just couldn't believe it.

Child of God - Wait for a Change

As a child Vicki Heacock spent a lot of time at the family cottage in Haliburton, Ontario.  Learning to live off the grid was something her dad insisted on... The sunsets were beautiful going over the lake and with it brought campfires, kerosene lanterns and guitar playing… Vicki’s Dad always ended up playing Me and My Teddy Bear [J. Fred Coots] and each family member had to fill in a verse of their own… the verses never had to rhyme but sounded much better when they did!!  At the age of 12 Vicki started to play guitar…. Folk just like her mom, and country just like her dad… then after a friend was in a fatal car accident Vicki wrote her first song… Don’t Drink and Drive… Arranging  words and melody together became very comforting as each song developed its own personality… In 2013, Vicki’s children, parents and a community of friends in Fenelon Falls helped support and encouraged a trip to Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music to a weeklong song writing workshop called Song Studio.  Vicki questioned her ability to write a song well and was pleasantly surprised when she was presented with the Excellence In Song writing Award…  Later on in 2013 Vicki wrote a theme song called Take Back the Night for the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centers’  ‘Take Back the Night Event’… This song is dedicated to all survivors… where freedom is answered prayer...
