Can You Blame Me (Intro)

I wrote this song after going through a really tough heartbreak. I spent so long trying to convince myself that it was only my fault that I felt as unhappy as I did with the relationship we had. In the end, this was my closure; I was dealing with a toxic person who was never going to own up to the pain they were dishing out. Writing this song was a vulnerable moment for me, so much so, that I had to take a really long break from working on it because finishing it meant letting go. Now two years later, I think I'm close to getting where I want to be with it. I hope you guys feel the song as much as I do.

I wrote this song when I was in the midst of coming out. I remember being so scared to tell my own mother that I like girls. I’ve heard so much negative language towards the LGBTQ+ community my whole life, I thought that my mother wouldn’t support my being gay. I struggled to ppen up to her because I didn’t want to feel like a disappointment, or like I made a mistake by coming out to her.
Eventually, it came out in conversation one day - it happened really quick. I thought I wouldn’t be accepted, but my mother and I have a relationship that is growing, and she has shown herself to love me no matter who I love. 

Everyone does not have the same support system I do.  This song is dedicated to those of you who don’t.
