The Austin College Sneed Prairie Restoration project is using cutting edge research to restore biodiversity to the Blackland Prarie. One of their most notable and interesting techniques involves a prescribed burn of the land. Yes, they light the whole field on fire (don’t worry, the fire department is there to supervise.) This is done to burn off invasive trees which choke the land and block out native species. The project is showing promising results. ☯️
