There’s a lot of amazing things aligning here with this premiere.  First off, it’s new material from Klaxons. This alone is momentous as they were essentially one of the first acts to really take off in blog culture almost 10 years ago and have even had trends based on them in the UK.  Basically, they broke the internet before there was such a thing.  Second, there are some serious names affiliated with this new material that’s supposed to be presented as a new album in the Spring.  The album appears to be steered in some part by Tom Rowlands (1/2 of the Chemical Brothers…HELLO) and the one and only James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records).  These facts alone have me geeked as they are two of my bigger influences in all of dance music.  Third, this premiere.  Word is Gorgon City produced the original and Claptone, who’s been on fire in the disco house realm for some time, took this to the deep house stratosphere.  So essentially this whole project seems crazy and I’m officially now on pins and needles waiting for more to drop.

Six months after their last installment, Shir Khan and Exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. As usual, there's much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, Rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of Antilope's "Singing Ghost" rework. Death On The Balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on "Addict For Your Love", whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. Finally, Matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut "Only You" which sits somewhere between Rahaan and Soundstream. Excellent stuff all round.

Lemon Jelly- Stay With You

Listening to a track like 'Like Rick Says' will convince you that summer is just round the corner. Shur-i-kan aka Tom Szirtes, lays down his deep house crown for this excursion into electro boogie and 808 bass laden sounds. The EP comes from a concept Tom was forming some years ago of bringing the sounds of Miami bass and early electro up to date with a deeper musical edge. Today in the context of the post-dubstep artists such as Julio Bashmore and Soulclap - these tracks take on a renewed relevancy hitting a sweet spot between electro/bass and Balearic sounds.

On the flip side 'Anyone 4 Love' goes for a more dub-step inspired sombre musical journey but retains the unique sonic imprint that is recognizably Shur-i-kan. No doubt this EP will frustrate both genre purists and some DJs with its unconventional short arrangements and hard to box style, but drop 'Like Rick Says' in a set and watching the smiling faces it will all begin to make sense.
