As per the junto instructions, I downloaded the Haydn track from where I would find my samples. I chose 4 samples, which was maybe a bit extravagant, but what do I know about minimal techno? I used Live's 'impulse' to create the actual beats using small snippets of the chosen samples. The rest were pitch shifted, stretched, filtered and compressed to varying degrees.  It runs at 125 bpm.
--this one was really fun for me, having never made techno before.
---Spawn of Slithus is an old b-movie that remains a legend in my past though I have never seen it and don't know if there was an original Slithus.

The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a trio from Cairo, Egypt, featuring Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya), Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B.).

Born during 2012 when the three were living in the same apartment building in Cairo’s Agouza district, the trio’s instrumental improvisation-based explorations are propelled by Louca’s North African percussion loops and shimmering keys, Shalabi’s West African tinged free jazz guitar and grounded by Bishop’s driving Krautrock-style acoustic bass.

Following many a late night jam session, the band recorded hours of material during a three-day studio run in April 2014. After compiling and mixing the album in Montreal’s Break Glass studio in July 2015, the refined result will be released as a double-album titled Bes via Nawa Recordings (NAWA005) on 2xLP, 2xCD and DL on 29 April 2016.

Named after the Ancient Egyptian dwarf deity who was worshiped as the defender of all things good and enemy of all that is bad, Bes captures the trio on a hypnotic yet unpredictable journey. From the the lilt of four-minute ethiopian tinged Resinance to the 30-minute free-form epic Museum of Stranglers, the album skirts the outer limits of a psychedelic soundtrack to a North African road trip.

Bes by The Dwarfs of East Agouza will be available on CD, black & limited edition coloured 12” vinyl LP and download, including Mastered for iTunes and lossless high-definition 24-bit/96kHz audio files.

The album artwork features a reproduction of an ancient Egyptian carving of the dwarf god Bes, painted by Egyptian artist Raafat Al-Kordy, designed by Iraqi-Palestinian graphic designer and illustrator Sara Sukhun.

For the 240th Junto, the assignment was:
Disquiet Junto Project 0240: Emerging from a Drone
The Assignment: Compose a piece of music in which a drone slowly, imperceptibly, gives way to something rhythmic and/or melodic.

I've been thinking alot about drones lately and am working on a new set inspired by the 50 cycle hum (I'm in iceland currently) and I decided to repurpose some of the material i've been working with.  

I considered what a drone is, as per the instructions... and interpreted what that might mean sonically... that, at least in the digital world, it's a series of minute samples which, when dissected and put under a microscope, are just a series of clicks. So, breaking somewhat from the assignment, my piece does not shift imperceptibly as such, but is rather a presentation of various drones and 'clicks' that make up music. it also contains some samples of natural drones, specifically, a recording of a waterfall in iceland (both granulated and not), plus a minute section of the recording of a small piece of severed glacier rubbing against another piece in the water. 
I also considered the ubiquitous 50 cycle hum and included a loop of me flicking on a light switch.
Some of these sounds will be heard in a performance to be presented and uploaded soon.

Meanwhile, the second version rumbles forward with its undulating bassline, soaring atmospherics and echoing elements to round up two solid productions exemplary of the Figure founder’s seasoned abilities in the studio.

Radio Slave - Grindhouse feat. Danton Eeprom (Len Faki Hardspace Mix 2)

Promial is sourced entirely from the introductory notes of a Sailor's Hornpipe.  It is intended to envelope the sailor's tradition in the vast expanse common to both the sea and the drone of the bagpipe.  It was commissioned by the Community Radio Education Society's (CRES) Media Arts Committee in Vancouver Canada in 2011.
