Inspired by Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein,' On a Dreary Night of November explores two opposing experiences of one moment in time. Movement I: Convulsive & Agitated, depicts Frankenstein's realisation of his creations, his horror, rage and eventual descent into deranged, fever-ridden dreams (or nightmares). The second Movement: Confused & Indistinct, uncovers
the creature's awakening, its opaque discovery of sensory expression, innocent uncovery of its surrounds, and desolate expression of abandonment and isolation.

A setting of the famous "Twinkle, twinkle" text :) I had no idea there were five verses before writing this piece!

Sung at the Gondwana Choirs Composers' School public workshop performance, January 2015, by the fabulous Gondwana Voices, conducted by Mark O'Leary.

The Week That Was with Liz and Justine - OST (2015)

After working with kids for the past few years, I have absolutely fallen in love with their honest (and occasionally brutal) interpretations of the world around them. It is, after all, only from a child that you would hear the words: 'Why are you so fat?' And although potentially soul-destroying, I find it admirable that social expectation has not yet entered their stream of consciousness. It was this that I thought of instantly when reading the poem, 'Tree' by Australian poet Richard James Allen. The poem seems to simply be a child's quirky ramblings, until the last few lines where it becomes more of a serious comment about the world around us. 

This work was written for an Internal Workshop Performance at National Choral School (Gondwana Choirs).
