Having ignited 2025's output with an EP from Philadelphia’s Shai FM, Vief now looks to the east coast for its second stateside import of the year. Seattle-based producer Fleksor serves up four dubstep and techno inspired cuts, guaranteed to bring even most the languid dancefloors to boiling point. 

The release contains two mixes of the titular track Arroyo De Mercurio, both clocking in at a healthy 140bpm, and is rounded out by two downtempo additions brimming with acid and percussion.

Loutan's (@loutanclan) tune "Empty Ice Tray" is the first going up from our next release, Refugee Action Compilation. As the name suggests, the release is a 17-track compilation of pure joy, with all proceeds from sales being donated to Refugee Action, an incredible UK charity doing very important work.

Loutan's track is of his usual ilk, with the Moon Rack chief treating us to an incredibly well crafted post-dubstep groover, populated with a splash of think breaks thrown in for good measure. Pushing dreamy chords and a more than hefty baseline to match, we are more than excited to be kicking off the release with this one :)

In May, halle o’malley, a producer who’s released on Vief a bunch of times by now, got in touch with an idea. She’d come across the Instagram of a 17-year-old Palestinian musician called Samih, who’s life has been torn apart by Israel's recent onslaught on the Gaza strip. Their home destroyed, Samih and his family were forced to flee to a refugee camp in Rafah. A Middle East Monitor article from June stated that him and his family have been displaced 5 times since 7th October. During their displacement, Samih has gone viral posting videos of himself singing and playing a borrowed oud, an instrument that loosely resembles a guitar.

Having spoken to Samih and received his blessing, Halle planned to sample a video of his and donate the proceeds from the sales of that track to a GoFundMe set up for him and his family. Halle approached me with the idea of scaling this project up by inviting other producers to sample Samih themselves or provide original tracks of their own.
 
Madhoun now stands as a compilation containing four productions sampling Samih, an interlude, and nine other dance tracks generously donated by producers from across the world.

Landing in London from Nairobi via Bristol and Dublin, Vief’s second release of 2025, Budalagi – HAPA NI WAPI, has arrived.

This five track EP features three stellar originals brimming with leftfield flavour from Kenyan producer Budalagi, drawing on a host of influences including gqom, gengetone, jersey club, and more.

Rounding out VFD012, we find two outstanding remixes courtesy of Amity’s Mulholland and Reason to Dance’s Dåser – both of whom featured in Vief’s Madhoun fundraiser compilation from last year.

Jersey club flavoured with baile funk and gqom? That's one hell of an international journey to be served within a single song but Kenyan producer Budalagi manages not only to do just that in one of the tracks from his upcoming EP 'HAPA NI WAPI' but also makes it sound as though these three genres should never be separated ever again.
