O dramaturgo alemão Bertolt Brecht dizia pela boca de seu personagem Galileu Galilei que a função da ciência era aliviar a canseira da existência humana. Eu acredito que a música também tem esse sentido.

The German playwriter Brecht once said through the mouth of his character, Galileo Galilei, that the function of science was to alleviate the tiredness of human existence. Music most certainly can do that.

FLUTUANDO RIO ABAIXO - FLOATING DOWN THE RIVER

Marcel Proust said that, theoretically we know that the Earth spins, the ground we walk seems firm and we live quiet. And he concludes: just as the time in life. He passes quickly but we do not feel and everything seems fine.

This is the central theme of the album “Where we come from? Where are we? Where are we going?” made by Carlos Silva and João Alexandre Viégas.  Most of the lyrics are small stories, about discovering magic and transcending in the daily life of ordinary people.

“A quiet guy”, witch is called Sempre calado in Portuguese, is a story about a young man who wants to be a musician but his family prefers he mimics Rockefeller, become an economist.

“While you were growing, life seemed tight clothing, and you grew up suffocated, my good friend always quiet. (…) “And all you want is to give a voice to the city, harmonizing some noise” (…) “Even you sometimes wonder why the most essential things are the most difficult to see” (…)“But when the green foam shampoo that smells woods cover your eyes and ears, the shower is a lomngínqua waterfall and you envisions happiness”

In “On the way into work” (witch is called No caminho do trabalho in portuguese), the character's life creeps resigned but he feels that “in the basements of the enlightened mind the spheres fly freely”.

There is some music composed by João Alexandre Viégas for acoustic guitar, like “Head in the clouds”. He says that this is “a music for guitar a little bit Zen. Berthold Brecht said by the mouth of his character Galileo Galilee that the purpose of science was to alleviate the fatigue of human existence. I think the music has the same purpose."

Lourdes Laudisséia (while she boils water to coffee)”, is a story of a cook who wants to see signs of the promised land (Laudisséia), but on air floats just the scent of food.

In “Spending time in the backyard”, the character feeds the bird, and still sleepy says good morning to the neighbor, while doing time in the backyard and the wind blows waves in a sheet.

In “Where do we come in? Where are we? Where we go?” the character contemplates raindrops on the window and raises his glass, drinking the grace to live. And in the garden, perfumes from the plants, messages from the stars and the silence of endless space. Windblown leaves, men driven by time.

There are a wide variety of tones in the album. In addition to the bases with piano, acoustic guitars, bass and drums, there are strings, woods, metals, percussion and other instruments.

Two of the songs combine instrumental and vocal music: “Where we come from ”, and “Always silent”. They are both on the border of popular music and classical music. Could be called a progressive Brazilian popular music.

The songs are very melodic, with arrangements that are not only frames the melodies, but that bind to songs like an amalgam, in the best tradition of the Beatles.

This is the Brazilian modern music.
