This song was written to shed light upon what's happening to the forests of Maharashtra, Aarey in particular. Mumbai's last remaining green lung is under severe threat, and the apathy of the people has made it much worse.
Avni the tigress was killed in Maharashtra's Yavatmal forest for similar political-builder nexus profits.

Wake up. 
We are all products of the forest.
Mother Nature provides for us all; all it asks is that we don't hack it to death, but somehow we can't seem to stop doing that.
We're killing our mother, our siblings, and even ourselves.
How much more?
We have to be better, and we have to do better.
