amazing deep electronical sets

Anfang März diesen Jahres feierten wir mir mit den Jungs von Deviant Affections im Hamburger Übel & Gefährlich unsere Geburtstagsparty. Unter anderem legte dort auch Jacob Groening auf, den wir bis dahin zwar noch nicht persönlich, aber immerhin vom Namen her schon kannten. Es folgten etliche gemeinsame Partybesuche, ein erster Artikel über ihn und im Laufe der Zeit entspann sich eine persönliche Freundschaft zu dem Hamburger, der sich längst über die Hansestadt hinaus einen Namen als hervorragender DJ gemacht hat.

Ob im Hamburger EGO, den Münchener Kong oder dem Berliner KaterHolzig (am kommenden 6. Oktober)… Jacob wird mittlerweile deutschlandweit in renommierten Clubs gebucht und begeistert das Publikum mit seinem ganz eigenen Stil, der sich in den Weiten des Deep-Houses bewegt aber stets mit Einflüssen aus vielen anderen Bereichen angereichert wird. So kann es passieren dass soulige oder sogar jazzige Rhythmen im Set erklingen oder Anleihen beim Hip Hop genommen werden. Auf diese Weise entsteht ein sehr stilvoller und wohl temperierter Sound, auf den man sich jedes Mal wieder freut, wenn Jacob an die Decks tritt.

Das geschieht gerade in Berlin und Hamburg zum Glück relativ oft, denn neben seinem Künstlerdasein hat er in Hamburg zusammen mit seinem Kollegen Daniel Wilhelm das Künstlerprojekt „Tanzen hilft!“ ins Leben gerufen, welches auch gleichzeitig eine Veranstaltungsreihe darstellt, die aus Hamburgs Partylandschaft nicht mehr wegzudenken ist. Darüber hinaus ist er ein Gründungsmitglied der „Voll Schön“–Crew, die in Berlin und Hamburg Partys unter eben diesem Namen veranstalten, bei denen der Name absolut Programm ist.

Ein weiterer Aspekt in Jacobs Schaffen macht seinen Podcastbeitrag zu einer Besonderheit, auf die wir besonders stolz sind. Mittlerweile produziert er auch selbst und gleich sein erster Track wurde so begeistert aufgenommen, dass bereits in naher Zukunft ein Release ansteht. In keinem anderen Set war „Hang Over“ bisher zu hören und so weht ein bisschen der Hauch einer Premiere durch die 24. Ausgabe des „Das haett es frueher nicht gegeben“-Podcasts, der den Hörer in deepe Gewässer entführen wird, in denen es auch die ein oder andere Perle aus früheren Tagen zu finden gibt…

Hace 3 años viví la maravillosa experiencia de participar en el Festival Burning Man en USA, y al mismo tiempo tener una corta gira por Norteamérica.

Para esa aventura, decidimos crear junto a mi gran amigo Albert Hofmann, un tributo a nuestras raíces musicales (era lo mínimo que podíamos hacer por ser hijos de la Capital de la Salsa, Cali).

Hoy, para traer de nuevo a la vida el lanzamiento de nuestra canción ¡Que viva!, queremos compartirles este sabroso homenaje a la música y la vida.

Three years ago I had a 'life chancing' chance to be in Burning Man Festival, and tour shortly around USA at the same trip.

For that adventure, Albert Hofmann and I decided to create a tribute to our musical heritage (honestly was the least we could do keeping in mind we're sons of 'Salsa' Capitol, Cali).

Today, we decided to bring back to life our release ¡Que viva! and share this 'Tasteful' tribute to life and music.

Well where to start with this year's burn? Musically, it was one of challenges and growth and just learning to think on my feet. The theme of collaboration was certainly not lost with my Ubulahnti Peacock brothers and sisters, with whom I had the honour and sheer joy of taking over various camps and sound stages, including Javanesia, Bubbles & Bass, The Dung Beetle, WHY NOT, Dreamers, The Spirit Train and of course the inescapable vixen on the Playa this year: The seductive CobraCabana and its towering cobra head. After a week of sandstorms, crazy warm nights, the starry skies night in night out, the broken DJ controllers and misplaced USBs leading to 3 cancelled gigs, it finally came down to the mystical serpent. I had the honour of guiding her from the twilight into the final sunrise. 

Thank you to Maxime, Lucian and the entire CobraCabana family for giving so much to make this effigy and stage a reality (on their first attempt no less!). I will also treasure my gift of the Snake Juice which was my prize for sharing the music <3

Headwaters is an electronic music collobration consists of two individuals, Engin Ozbatir and Onur Okutan.

In 2010, Engin, whose interest in electronic music has dramatically increased by means of the decisive influence of numerous local and foreign musicians that he has listened at “1888-Nightclub” in Izmir, has started his career at the relevant club as Resident DJ

Onur has started his perfoming career via playing electro guitar at his early ages and carried on his passion by composing his own songs.
Throughout his bachelor degree he had the chance to improve his competency on playing numerous instruments including but not limited to piano, violoncello and trumpet.

In recent years, as he has moved his productivity to electronic music, by the inspiration drawn from the infinity of the sounds used during production process, he decided to have his master degree on sound engineering.

Consequently, Headwaters has existed via combination of music knowledge and instrument skills of Onur and wide electronic music experience of Engin.
