In the five (five!) years since his cracking debut LP System dropped, the type of music Linkwood excelled at - a meld of sun-kissed house and loping LA funkiness - has become widespread, and perhaps even played out. So the decision to furrow a different path on forthcoming sophomore Expressions (due next week on Firecracker) makes perfect sense.
That being said, the warm tones prove hard to shake, and the precision of craft never truly goes away. What begins as straight techno chugger in the vein of The Field circa '07 gradually emerges from its tunnel into bright daylight. It's a coy move, us premiering this one: "Object" is a bridge. But coming from, and going to where? We've waited half a decade - one week more won't hurt.

New York based label/party Frendzone storms back with its second release featuring a diverse collection of artists and styles, including a deep, acidic and atmospheric house cut from the mysterious rising talent Ames Henry and Paul Kav titled 'Business In Hasenheide'.

Also included on 'Frndzne 02' is an experimental tech-breakbeat composition from seasoned drum 'n' bass producer Fanu as well as a banging hardcore jungle track from label veteran Octo Octa.

Known to many for his infamous ambient dub techno album, ‘Rigning’, Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson’s aka Yagya's landmark release took us deep amongst the rain-drenched forest. The beautiful, slowly shuffling atmospheric masterpiece set a blueprint for the notorious style we now know him best for. Fast forward ten years, and the gently falling rain from Rigning has now intensified. Yagya has shifted to something with more energy, a more defined groove, and a growing euphoric state: Stormur. 

Stormur, sees Yagya continue to evolve his sound into the pure techno realm. His unique palette still identifiable, but the focus now on the swirling hypnotism, the delicate tonal progressions, whispering vocals, and the underlying current that transports you. From the forest floor to the soaring treetops, the dense whirlpools of mist, and the breathtaking landscapes are now seen from above. 

Confident in its simplicity and efficiency, Stormur is focused on the subtle flow and progression between tracks akin to a full DJ set, transporting you from one chapter to the next. Each track taking its cue from the previous. The tonal shifts are minimal, resulting in a trance-like state throughout the ten movements, best absorbed in one sitting, with guest vocalist Hatis Noir providing an angelic voice amongst the shifting patterns, swirling synthesizers and driving grooves.

ASIPV015 Yagya / Stormur eitt

Vancouver’s JGarrett returns to SubSensory with five thunderous techno cuts entitled ‘Leverage’ including a remix from Dublin’s Partisan. The Vancouver-based producer and performing artist has been heavily involved in the techno scene for nearly twenty-five years now. In 2012 he started the Subspec Music imprint which became a home for many of his productions along with labels such as Perc Trax, Gobsmacked, Decoy and Dirty Minds.

‘Effort Vs. Load’ keeps the momentum flowing through dubbed-out echoes, resonating low end and alleviating pads bouncing around the effervescent aesthetics.
