I recently created a DJ set called "Sutra: Scripture in Nu Disco" that takes listeners on a journey through some of my favorite tracks in the genre. From classic disco to modern-day funk, this set is a celebration of the groove that never fades away.

The set opens with "For Your Love" by Indris Muhammad, a funky track with a soulful bassline that sets the tone for what's to come. Next up is "Part Five (Slow Down Baby)" by 6th Borough Project, a laid-back groove that's perfect for getting into the flow. The tempo picks up with "McLovin" and "Hang On (Edit)," both by 6th Borough Project, before settling back down with Larse's "Lovin' U."

One of my favorite tracks in the set is "Cocaine Blues (Greg Wilson Mix)" by Escort, a disco-infused jam that's impossible to resist dancing to. The energy stays high with Midnight Magic's "Beam Me Up (Edit)" and 6th Borough Project's "Sometimes the Fool." Aeroplane ft. Kathy Diamond's "Whispers" slows things down a bit, with a dreamy melody that's perfect for catching your breath before the final stretch.

Roberto Rodriguez (Manolo)'s "I Keep Thinking of You" brings a touch of romance to the set, with its sweet vocals and smooth guitar riffs. Atmosfear's "Dancing In Outer Space (The Revenge Rework 2)" and Tambi's "You Don't Know (Horse Meat Disco Remix)" keep the disco vibes flowing, while Serious Intention's "You Don't Know (1985 Original)" takes us back to the roots of the genre.

The set comes to a close with "L.O.V.E. (Wolfgang Voigt Remix 1)" by Motor City Drum Ensemble and "Macho Disco Master" by Wild Geese, leaving listeners feeling uplifted and energized. Overall, "Sutra: Scripture in Nu Disco" is a testament to the power of music to uplift and inspire, no matter the era or genre.

Karma of Dove is proud to present "Howl," a DJ set created to serve as the soundtrack to one of the chapters in the forthcoming novel series, "The Desert Road of Night." This eclectic mix of songs takes the listener on a journey through various genres, evoking a range of emotions and moods.

The set opens with "Damsbo Bay" by Finland & Aaskoven, a hauntingly beautiful track that sets the tone for the rest of the mix. The dreamy soundscape continues with "a true story" by late year (Otxhello & Dilip), followed by "Chefchaouen (The Blue City)" by Finland & Aaskoven, which features a more upbeat rhythm.

As the mix progresses, the listener is introduced to "Visitors" by Linah Rocio & The Lighthearted, a mesmerizing track with a strong vocal performance. The mood then shifts with "This Love" by Craig Armstrong, a romantic ballad with a soaring orchestral arrangement.

Howl (Downtempo & World Music)

In 1993, I created a DJ set that included a range of classic tracks from the early years of electronic dance music. This set was meant to showcase the diversity and excitement of the genre, and to take listeners on a journey through different styles and moods.

The set begins with "Open Your Mind" by 3 Phase, a classic acid track with a pulsating bassline and hypnotic synth lines. This sets the tone for the rest of the set, which features a mix of classic acid, techno, and house tracks.

Next up is "Skyscratch (Mano Mano)" by Ingator II, a driving techno track with a relentless beat and swirling synth lines. This is followed by the acid remix of "Crucified" by Army of Lovers, which adds a harder edge to the original pop track.

The set then moves into more experimental territory with "God of Abraham (Remix)" by M.N.O., a track that combines tribal percussion with haunting synth lines. This is followed by "All That I Need Is to Be Loved" by Moby, a dreamy house track with ethereal vocals and a pulsing beat.

The middle of the set features a mysterious white label track (which may have been by Moby), followed by "Future House (80 Aum Dub Remix)" by 80 Aum, a classic acid track with a dark, brooding atmosphere. This is followed by "A Million Colors" by Channel X, a bright, uplifting house track that provides a contrast to the darker tracks that came before.

The set then takes a turn into more ambient territory with "Papua New Guinea" by The Future Sound of London, a seminal track that combines ethereal vocals with atmospheric soundscapes. This is followed by "Expander" by The Future Sound of London, a more upbeat track that features a driving beat and soaring synth lines.

Finally, the set ends with "Evil Surrounds Us" by Wishdokta, a classic hardcore track that combines pounding beats with haunting melodies. This track serves as a reminder of the genre's roots in the underground rave scene, and of the energy and excitement that drove that scene forward.

Overall, this DJ set is a snapshot of the early years of electronic dance music, showcasing the range of styles and moods that the genre encompasses. It is a testament to the creativity and experimentation that drove the genre forward, and a reminder of the enduring appeal of electronic music.

As DJ Karma of Dove, I'm thrilled to present my latest Soundcloud posting that takes you on a musical journey through five unique sections. Each section is carefully crafted to deliver an exceptional listening experience that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

We start with "Uranus & Gaea: World Sounds," where I've curated a selection of tracks that transport you to different parts of the world. Nicos' "Secret Love" sets the tone with its exotic melody, followed by The Sura Quintet's "The Bay of Love," which takes you on a journey through the Mediterranean. Almadrava's "Distancia Del Mar" and Arno Elias' "Corazon" continue to transport you to different parts of the world, while Jerome Isma-Ae's "Underwater Love" adds a touch of mystery to the mix. In "Atlas: Alternative," we switch gears again and dive into some eclectic tracks that blend different genres. 8mm's "Give It Up" has a dreamy quality to it, followed by Terranova's "Plastic Stress," which combines electronic and rock elements. The Bug ft. Inga Copeland's "Fall" adds an experimental touch to the mix, while Supreme Beings of Leisure's "Last Girl on Earth" delivers a haunting finish to this section.

Lastly, we have "Orpheus: Indie," where we close things off with some indie classics. Willie Hutch's "Hospital Prelude of Love Theme" sets the mood with its soulful vocals and mellow guitar riffs, followed by Crazy P's "Like A Fool," which has a more upbeat feel to it. This DJ set reflects the sound coming from long lonesome roads stretching out into the horizon at night.

It's the sound of having moved away from all the ghosts that roamed the streets in dreams of my past life in New York City, before heart break, before illness and failure forced me to move away far away.

It's the sound of driving over countless desolate roads, winding through ghost towns and vast empty space, in the blue hour before sunrise and at the golden hour before sunset.

It's the sound playing in my head on those long drives where all I did was think and tried coming to terms with all that came about between, December 28, 2010, when I wrote Desert Road of Night, and now, September 6, 2016.

How I almost lost my life.

Since then, that desert road of night ended in Texas and my arriving at a place of peace with myself.

No more ghosts hovering on the side of roads in my dreams; no more dreams.

No more fear.
If I were to die tomorrow I'd die with no regrets which has been my goal all along.

The sound at the end of this DJ set reflects a moment in my life where I didn't think that was possible.

As I sit here in my home in Texas, with it's wide open spaces, I have been thinking of the crowded spaces all of us New Yorkers are accustomed to and how my family and friends are doing their best to ride out the pandemic without losing their minds or their lives.

The Red Room: Techno (Sensual and Hard Driving)

This DJ set was recorded live at a wine gathering in Montreal, Quebec, on July 6, 2013, under my performance name, Karma of Dove.

It’s a mix of world music and indie beats that shifts between upbeat and chill, keeping the vibe mellow and reflective.

The set starts off smooth and dreamy, with tracks like Pleasant Dream and Solitude setting a calm tone. Then, it picks up energy with Latin beats and laid-back electronic tracks, mixing in different moods as it progresses.

You’ll get a blend of sensual rhythms, upbeat grooves, and chilled-out vibes. It’s music you can relax to but also makes you want to move. There are touches of jazz, bossa nova, and deep house that keep it interesting without ever getting too intense.

The set wraps up with darker, moodier songs like Milk and Angel, giving it a cool, late-night feel.

The video includes photos I took under my real name, Eduardo Vega Colón, during a phase of my life that inspired many of the stories I share in my novels and posts here on Substack. The images capture a sense of quiet, solitude, and stark beauty.

Journey to the End of Night (World Music • Chill-Out • Indie Dance)

The theme of this DJ set, which I created while writing the first draft of my novel The Desert Road of Night, is Space.

Not literal space, but the ecstatic space experienced by lovers who consent to exchange their power within a consensual Dom/sub dynamic.

In this dynamic, true dominance is defined by the restraint shown to the submissive, who, in their vulnerable state, reveals what it truly means to wield power.

It is the dance of give and take, of trust, of the push and pull of emotions, the constant testing of the Dom’s worthiness. When that is demonstrated, the lovers become free to experience sensations similar to those felt while listening to this DJ set: floating in space until the moment when the dominant expresses their joy through aftercare for their sub as they return to the ordinary world.

There's a reason why I'm calling the fourth episode of my DJ podcast the Purple Room.

Again, it's tied to a literary project I have since finished during the quarantine period of the pandemic. The end of the night feel I, along with my girlfriend at the time, would have after a night of dancing at legendary NYC clubs like Save the Robots and The Limelight. We would keep the vibe of the night going in her room, where she had painted the walls purple. 

It was in that Purple Room she had given me the name, Karma of Dove—taken from the 2nd chorus of Jack Kerouac's Mexico City Blues. The poem was something she'd read to me whenever I'd wake up screaming from PTSD fueled nightmares as a way to calm me.

This old friend, years later, encouraged me to start making music and taking pictures again. It was a way not to hide from life anymore and think of myself as more than a stay-at-home dad.

What the dead would give to have our problems—she's no longer around. 

I have nothing but gratitude.

The sound in this DJ set is an expression of gratitude and a way of touching that feeling I had when, back in the day, I would lose myself in the music.

These DJ sets are part of an ongoing soundtrack I've been putting together during the quarantine. I hope to make it available as a companion piece once my book is published.

I created this DJ set back in November 2013, when I was challenging myself to take samples and create film scores out of DJ sets for my favorite movies.  

I had done this with Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, which was easy to do given I was so into South African House Music at the time, which lends itself easily to that romantic mood. 

But The Matrix? I wanted to see if I could pull it off.

Wonderland (Techno) DJ set inspired by the movie, The Matrix

The Bridge is a narrative DJ set that goes beyond what plain language can capture—an audio companion to my Substack essay, At the Edge of Her and Me (March 28, 2025). For the full story, see the essay on Substack—link in my profile.

I chose these tracks for their visceral pull. Each one holds memory, grief, intimacy, and the ritual of returning to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge—a place that tests the will to live. The sweet void. The women who stood with me. The ones who disappeared. The one who stayed.

The slow drift of grief. Minimal, meditative. A quiet path linking years nobody asked about.

Air, echo, percussion. Perfect for the in-between: the drive to Taos, a motel room, two people who won’t say what they really mean.

10. The Cinematic Orchestra feat. Tawiah – Wait For Now / Leave the World
A muted sense of closure. The feeling of finding yourself again while still unsure you can make it.

11. Ólafur Arnalds – So Close
An ending that doesn’t quite end. Intimacy always just out of reach. A faint glow you chase when saying “Don’t give up.”
