Bio: 

Bohdan is a producer and DJ from Kyiv, one of the Ukrainian deep and hypnotic techno scene representatives. Half of the electronic project Asyncronous and founder of the ÆNIGMA events.

Short interview with Bohdan:

1.Background/the start:

"I have a rather long background story of drum'n'bass DJ, which smoothly turned into studio work with completely different music. I've always gravitated towards production, looking for a sound that would reflect the fullest spectrum of my musical preferences. The result wasn't connected or focused directly on techno, since I'm more interested not in the genre itself, but in the aesthetics of atmospheric sounds, hypnotic components and complex musicality, which allows you to create something more than just a dance groove".

2. Inspiration:

"I travel a lot, read a lot, fond of photography and documentaries, learning more about the traditions and culture of different eras and territories. All this gives a lot of food for thought and, of course, influences creativity. Ideas can come during a long walk in the woods or a train trip, you know, when looking through the window. Basically, nature itself is a greatest source of inspiration. At least I think art is the second most beautiful thing, first comes nature."

3. Artist situation/Local techno scene? 

"The Ukrainian scene has existed for a long time, although the world drew attention to it only 7-8 years ago. Now the scene is in its prime, thanks to the talented and distinctive artists, remarkable events and venues. It is important to note that Ukraine was one of the first countries in Europe to lift restrictions on night events after lockdown. So Kyiv has become one of the most popular destinations for artists and party people over the past few months."


4. Future:

"The current situation in the world forces us to talk less about plans and work more on current projects. Hope that next year will allow to embody much more than the previous ones. That's what I wish to all of us."

DxH 22 - Bohdan

The UK based artist Faery (@freyacaldwell) is the third one to record a wonderful mix for our Herbarium mix series.
She worked with a lot of watery psychedelic textures forming an intriguing hypnotic vibe. Proper grooves support the whole captivating feeling of this episode.
We chose the plant 'Cyclamen Hederifolium' - a flower which blooms around autumn. The petals of this plant have wave-like shapes that strongly remind us of the watery atmosphere in Faery's journey. It grows best at shaded places where the strong colours of the blossoms glow even stronger. This links the deep atmosphere in combination with those subtle but well crafted sound design details of this mix to the flower in a beautiful way.

Bohdan started his artistic career in the mid-2000s. He went from being a drum & bass DJ and event organizer in Kyiv to focusing on producing music, specializing in immersive, cerebral techno and its diverse forms. His musical portfolio boasts releases on esteemed contemporary techno labels like Informa, NORITE, KVLTÖ, and Illegal Alien.

He's also part of the electronic project Asyncronous. In 2020, he inaugurated the ÆNIGMA series of Kyiv-based events, dedicated to contemporary deep techno, accompanied by a monthly podcast.
