Coalmine Records is pleased for yet another rerelease of ‘Land of the Crooks,’ the collaborative extended play project from the late Sean Price and Melbourne’s go to producer, M-Phazes. 

The project finds the longtime underground legend lending his distinctive, Brownsville-bred grimy vocals over Phazes’ rich tracks full of dramatic pianos, rich bass-lines, swinging horns and hard drums.

The A-side includes the main passes, comprised of four original tracks with the addition of the Small Professor Remix for ”Murdah Type Thinkin (feat. Guilty Simpson).” For this special edition rerelease, Coalmine has also added the Divided Souls Ent. & DJ Pain 1 Remix of “Land of the Crooks,” which was only previously made available on the label’s remix compilation, ‘Remineded,’ which first dropped back in January of 2015.

The B-side includes the instrumental passes of all of the original tracks, as well as the Small Pro Remix, in addition to the “Crookapella,” which includes various scratch stems taken from the EP, in addition to various isolated drum sounds, sound effects, and acapella of the “Land of the Crooks” single.

Additional features on LOTC include Roc Marciano, Billy Danze (of M.O.P.), Maffew Ragazino, Loudmouf Choir and the Dilated Junky, DJ Babu.

Vinyl is manufactured on a blue and green swirled configuration, limited to just 500 Units, and comes complete with the Andres Guzman designed artwork, inspired by the vintage ‘80s movie, ‘Crocodile Dundee.’

Sean Price was Hip-Hop’s Gray Hulk, a barbarian with the pen, with the sharpest of wits. A true Brooklyn legend...riP!

There's a reason why the teacher and student relationship has stood the test of time. It's a bond that has been throughly documented in texts such as Robert Greene's 'Mastery;' from 'The Odyssey' to 'The Karate Kid,' this dynamic has become commonplace in all art forms. Naturally, it would not take long for this relationship to find it's way into the world of Hip-Hop. In 2008, Termanology began making a name for himself, he had several highly-acclaimed singles in rotation and when DJ Premier laced him with one of his signature, scratch-laden beats on "Watch How It Go Down" the hood conscious anthem became an underground classic; and with it Termanology thrust himself onto hip-hop's international radar.

Soon after, Term released his solo-debut, Politics As Usual, a project that included a Mount Rushmore like array of producers; DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Havoc, Alchemist, Hi-Tek, Buckwild, Easy Mo Bee & Nottz. Politics As Usual was one of those rare projects which managed to merge the best of both worlds for Hip-Hop fans; meshing classic boom-bap production from a virtual who's who list of production royalty with Term’s lyricism, swagger and bravado.

Just as in life, in hip-hop everything comes full-circle and while a lot has changed since Termanology released his debut; he’s back with More Politics.  Similar to his debut, More Politics again brings together the elite of the elite beatsmiths, as Just Blaze, Q-Tip, Buckwild, Hi-Tek, Nottz, Dame Grease, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and his brother from another mother Statik Selektah all contribute production.

Planet Asia helped jump-start the West Coast independent hip-hop movement, and has solidified himself as one of the most consistent and respected MCs in the game over his 20+ year career.   He dropped his debut EP with producer Fanatik in 1998, and followed up quickly with the singles "Definition of Ill" (Stones Throw) and "Place of Birth" (ABB Records).  In 2001, The Source Magazine gave him the ‘First Round Draft Pick’ and ‘Independent Album of the Year’ awards for ‘How the West Was One’, which was recorded with fellow CA rapper Rasco under the group name Cali Agents.  This landed him a deal with Interscope Records, where he was signed until 2003 without releasing an album.  

Planet Asia was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 for his feature on the song "W" by Mystic, and was later signed to Avatar Records, which released his official debut album, ‘The Grand Opening,’ in 2004.  It earned him another ‘Independent Album of the Year’ award from The Source.  Later, he started his own imprint Gold Chain Music, on which he has churned out multiple projects.  He has also collaborated on albums with the likes of DJ Muggs (‘Pain Language’), Evidence (‘The Medicine’) and Madlib (‘Cracks In The Vinyl’), among others, and released songs with artists such as Linkin Park, Bun B, Talib Kweli and Ghostface Killah.

The Fresno MC is fresh off of a strong 2017 which featured well-received collaborative albums with producers DirtyDiggs (‘Dirty Planet’) and Apollo Brown (‘Anchovies’). For 2018, Asia teamed up with Bay Area producer izznyce for this true solo project, sure to be considered the next classic in his vast catalog.

‘The Golden Buddha’ was produced entirely by izznyce (producer for Superstar Quamallah and more) and features AZ, Hus Kingpin, Turbin, Marvelous Mag, Killa Kali, TriState, Xiomara and The Architect.

Speaking on the project, Planet Asia says: “This album represents the foundation of what Planet Asia is about and that is ‘balance’. Me and izznyce also took our time with the record, and had a chance to really vibe out and make the type of music we personally like that will stand the test of time!”

Onyx’s New ‘Black Rock’ Album Will Be Released On 2-16-18

The release of today’s single is on a very somber note.  Yesterday, Chylow “Chyskillz” Parker, who produced and or co-produced the majority of Bacdafucup and an integral cog in the Onyx machine passed away due to a heart attack. “Rest in Paradise to our brother Chylow "Chyskillz" Parker, our condolences go out to his family and close friends, we will always acknowledge your contribution to the Onyx legacy. Years before anyone told you to “give up the goods,” Queens craziest Bal-Hed sons, Onyx, were already busy taking the Golden Era’s loot and taking it to new heights.  In the process they stamped the term “hardcore” in its darkest terms across the Hip-Hop vernacular with their trailblazing platinum debut Bacdafucup (under the guidance of their departed mentor and producer Jam Master Jay), which included the indelible singles “Slam” and “Throw Ya Gunz.” 

The multi-platinum group’s fearless nature has always set them apart.  From the menacing cover art for Bacdafucup; which captured four young, bald figures toting a shoulder-strapped automatic weapon, to their now instantly recognizable “MadFace” logo and taking hip-hop to a world that could “Slam” in an era where even looking at someone wrong at show could be the start of your ending. They gave 50 Cent his first major label platform (“React” from 1998’s Shut ‘Em Down album), made boom-bap gangsta, gave metal street cred and integrated the kinship of hip-hop and punk rock cultures to a wider global audience. Simply, Onyx didn’t break industry rules; they scared them the fuck away.

While their iconic status has propelled them into various movie and TV roles as actors (Fredro’s credits include Clockers, Sunset Park, Strapped, The Wire, Light It Up and Save The Last Dance, while Sticky’s include The Shield, Blade: The Series, Law & Order & CSI: Miami), two decades and a few classic albums later there is still nothing as exhilarating as listening to the greatness of Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz’ loud and abrasive deliveries.

In 2018, Onyx is back and bringing it bacdafucup in your face with their explosive new album, Black Rock, which will be released on 2-16-18.  Black Rock interpolates Onyx’s intense hardcore vocals, booming drums and heavy guitar riffs to create the most aggressive release of the group’s career.  “We came in with Run-DMC and Onyx are the new kings of rock” Fredro exclaims.  “The inspiration for Black Rock came from the song (title track) we did for the revolutionary Judgment Night Soundtrack.  It’s Hip-Hop meets Rock and Roll, boom bap and guitars; but what people don’t expect to hear from us is what makes this album so dope.”
