The original by Swedish House Mafia + Laidback Luke + Debroah Cox has been my go-to get ready to party song for 13 years. Then the song came on during a particularly gloomy week in my life, and I suddenly saw a new undertone to the lyrics. In a different setting, they mean something completely different. So I started playing arpeggios on the piano and ended up with a very different feeling to the original – instead of partying, it’s about leaving the party, drugs, sadness, and pain behind.
