Having established the label's sound over the past year or so through expansive and dynamic releases from Anna Gram, DART and label head Hammer, Remmah returns with a new 5-track EP from Irish duo Long Island Sound (@longislandsoundeire).

First Contact is a five-track EP that pulls off the trick of being both epic and intimate. From the title track to closer Wind & Rain, it showcases the duo's ability to traverse genre and era through their blend of breakbeats, acid lines, subtle sampling and ambient washes. Lead single 'Memory' provides the most dancefloor-focused cut of the selection with its driving synths providing an intense release.

The EP follows fellow Dubliner DART's label debut as another example of exciting production talent emerging from Ireland. The duo of Rob Roche & Tim Nolan first started working together in 2015 and made their breakthrough with a debut EP for Bobby Analog's Body Fusion imprint in 2019. Releases on Melbourne's Kyoku Records and their own Signs of Space label followed thereafter, along with an appearance on Maribou State's 209 Fabric Presents mix compilation.

The second release for Sounds of Lava Lava comes from one of New Zealand’s most hotly tipped producers; AROHA. As a DJ she has carved a name for herself with her club-ready sets spanning House, Techno, Jungle, Post-Dubstep and UK Bass. Her debut EP in late 2020 ‘No More Jenga’ received worldwide acclaim and her new single Escape To Eora Country (Under a Blood Flower Moon) is another powerful club-focussed single.

Written during lockdown in Melbourne, Escape To Eora Country opens up with an ambient soundscape and moving bassline which, when cut with the sirens, gives you a sense of escaping to a bustling city in the early hours of the morning. Airy pads lead through to a breakdown where AROHA’s vocals draw you further into this hypnotic groove before a euphoric drop. Every element of this track combine to form a mesmerising peak-time dance floor cut with a rare sense of depth.

Remixing Escape To Eora Country is one half of Glasgow’s iconic Lezzer Quest duo Anna Gram. Her 2021 production debut on Hammer received critical acclaim and her second release last month via Permanent Vacation leaves few in doubt she is one to watch for 2022.
Anna’s take on the main hook alongside a thumping kick immediately draws you into her remix. AROHA’s stripped back vocals lead beautifully into a rolling bass and layered arpeggiated synths. An undisputed banger with a real burst of 90’s rave energy.

"jaytes's 'Sweettooth' E.P. says more about itself than a columnist can. Using simple mechanics these songs minimize the amount boisterousness EDM music is known to have, and maximizes the amount of intimacy the artist is capable of reaching it's audience with. Starting out with a track like 'Topanga' we're reminded of the reason we find ourselves in music and musical rabbit-holes... To detach ourselves from the horrific nature of life and what it can drop just outside our bedroom. The journey from the intro "Apertura' all the way to the driven and distorted Title track "Sweettooth" make this Lofi house adventure most unlike it's peers featuring both moments of authenticity in not only the lyrics but instumentation (that's right I said instrumentation) as well.
After a year like JT has had 'Sweettooth is a crowning achievement.

...So we originally planned to make a potpourri of tracks as a hodge-podge "end of the year blowout sale," instead we ended making a Lofi House joint🤙

Focusing more on story telling rather than "Hit-Seeking" this EP does fall into the nostalgia trope of the genre in a way our project has yet to bother with. In the beggining of next year we'd love to delve more into club sound and crowd pleasing but for now the grunge is grrrreat!

Hope you had a fantastic year; from all of us over here thank you so so so much for being apart of our sound and being an ear willing to listen. Your plays and support are worth their weight in GOLD, and are the greatest luxury i've ever known.

Revered by many as an on point clubber, dancer, singer, DJ and producer, her breakthrough in Hercules & Love Affair was a start, soon carving out her place as a solo artist and global DJ, while fitting in time to run the Firehouse - recently featuring Richard Sen and Kasra V - and SELF-TIMER labels - home to new project, Pleasure Planet.
