Who better than DIAL stalwart Efdemin could wrap up the year on such a distinctly class-act type of note? Probably no one. He who’s become an absolute gem trader over the years through a string of epoch-making efforts, including the time-proof masterpiece that is “Decay” in 2014, drops by to grace us with a mesmeric Xmas tale by way of waving goodbye to 2022. Extruding elements of techno deepness out their usual cast to mingle them with that exploratory, jazz-inflected approach of his - subtly pairing the lingering beauty of stretched-out synths with that of free-flowing 4x4 grooves and haunting melodies, Efdemin entices us on a path of delectably focused and flavourful techno sensibility. An absolute pleasure and honour for us to round off 2022 in such good company.

The REC series compiles outstanding performances recorded in the club throughout the year, highlighting artists representing our love for electronic music.

Voiski is the kind of artist that stands out. Even surrounded by artists like Ben Klock, Shifted or Phara, as was the case when this set was recorded, Voiski’s radiance can be undoubted. Ruled by no textbook, the French artist delicately manages to combine both the ardor and elegance of his analog techno trademark.  

Embellished by the big system of our Room 01, synth parts are uniting with blaring basslines and an incessant galloping feeling. Hard to argue with the fact that Voiski is a techno stalwart, we can only hope to see him under our roof again soon.

Big room bang, hypnotic, fast, high energy, and colorful are just some of the words I would use to describe this set. The crowd was really engaged and it was heartwarming to see so many friends around me dancing like crazy.

Wata Igarashi's live set from Sónar Festival 2023 was a mind-bending masterclass in tough yet heavily textured techno.

Kerrie started a label called Dark Machine Funk, a name which hints toward the kind of music she plays. And while the Irish artist might be a capital-T techno DJ, her idea of "dark" is a little different than the black-clad legions of her generation. You won't find whiplash-inducing BPMs or racy pop edits in her sets. Her idea of techno is more classicist, without veering towards the stuffy or the retro. Her DJIng and her productions bridge the divide between Euro and  American styles. Hints of breakbeat or other broken patterns bring in ideas from the UK techno that she loves so much, such as the pivotal label Blueprint, where she's become a regular  as of late.

With her, the devil's in the details (listen to those deliciously twisted hi-hats in recent track "Transient Belief"), and that comes down to mixing records, too. Her RA Podcast is a fast but measured run-through of 90 minutes of techno by artists like Exium and Tensal and from labels such as Token and Soma. Though none of her own tunes make the tracklist, this mix perfectly captures Kerrie's style. She's someone who appreciates that the real power and force of techno comes from its groove, not just the impact of the kick drum or pure speed.

Boris, the long-standing Berghain resident, is deeply committed to the captivating magic that unfolds on the dance floor. However, to pigeonhole Boris only to Berlin would be doing him a disservice. In fact, his visits to legendary clubs like Paradise Garage and the Loft in New York City have left an indelible mark on his persona and DJ style.

Imagine the euphoric sounds that created a sense of belonging and ecstasy in Boris' heart while experiencing the massive pumping sound and welcoming community feeling at NYC's clubs. He brings this same warmth and playful energy to dance floors worldwide. His infectious style makes it effortless for clubbers to lose themselves in the music and partying, earning him a loyal following within the queer scene - and beyond.

Whether he's playing small, intimate clubs, festivals, or his prestigious residencies such as Berghain, Faust in Seoul, or House of Mince in Sydney, Boris has the gift to take people to another state of mind where nothing matters but the music and the moment.
