Up next on the DHA mixtape series is Edinburgh-based Achim Brandenburg aka Prosumer. Originally from Saarbruecken, he’s a highly respectable artist who has a passion for house music, smoothly produces records on the occasion, and enjoys sharing the music he loves.

While deriving his name from Alvin Toffler’s techno sci-fi-bible The Third Wave (producing and consuming at the same time), Prosumer lives up to his name. Creating an album with Murat Tepeli and collaborating with artists such as Tama Sumo, Prosumer has put his name on labels like Frankfurt’s Playhouse, Running Back and Swayzak’s 240 Volts. 

On top of having more than a decade of Hard-Wax-enculturation on the clock, he’s spent countless nights in clubs, days digging for records and years refining his art, all while becoming in line with the electronic-music triad in America – Detroit, Chicago and New York.

Prosumer oscillates between the outputs of these great cities. This holds true for his productions, which are riddled with historical references and vertexes, yet they never feel to be out of time or place.

Just like contemporary hip-hop can feel far removed from its founding pillars (rapping, writing, b-boying & DJing) nowadays house and, more widely, dance music seem, sometimes, to get farther from, well, eliciting dancing. Under his main vehicle, his side conceptual moniker of Black Jazz Consortium or his occasional guise Anomaly, the Berlin based New Yorker Fred P. has been a quiet force channeling the very essential motion at the core of this music and culture for the last 15 years.

With influences reaching to the roots of American black music, UK’s broken beat and beyond, his unmistakably hypnotic brand of dance music is now occupying a central role in a scene over, below and parallel to the radar of marketed flavour of the week trends; one that is not looking to convince but to transmit a vision, constructing a message.

After releasing what is possibly the best house album of 2019 under Black Jazz Consortium, a slew of dancefloor movers that seem to suspend the listener in a timeless space and a series of very singular remixes, Fred P. comes back again with an incredibly soulful number for Apparel Music’s 10th anniversary double vinyl compilation.

To celebrate the release of this compilation and his contribution we asked the equally talented DJ to record a mix for us and sent a few questions to try to get some more insight into his vision and craft.

Genre? There is no genre, that's the point. Weekend Lovers special party at the TV Bar on April 6, 2013. It was a birthday party for Mike Fotias' (Foton), co-founder of Burst Audio and Audio Rescue Team, who also organizes all the sound on site for the Movement Fest.

Vincent Floyd came on the scene with the release of "Your Eyes" on Dance Mania Records in 1990. Serene and thoroughly musical, "Your Eyes" left no doubts about Floyd’s talent as a writer nor his production prowess. 
Vincent would explore this musical territory further on “Cruising (Long Ride),” released on Resound Records, the label he started through a P&D agreement with Gherkin Records. Inspired by long drives up Lake Shore Drive, the road that runs along Lake Michigan for almost the entirety of Chicago, the 12 minute long track is hypnotic and mellow, wrapped in dreamy pads and laced with whirling pitches and heavenly leads.
In 1992, Floyd went on tour as a keyboardist with Larry Heard AKA Mr. Fingers, then on MCA Records.  Vincent kept amassing unreleased tracks. Some eventually found their way onto EPs for Cajmere’s Relief Records in 1995 and Mindfood, Rated X Records and Subwoofer in 1996.
After obtaining a Bachelors in Music from Chicago State University, and a Masters of Arts degree from Roosevelt University, Vincent worked as a music teacher for Chicago Public Schools.
In 2014, after Vincent Floyd met Antal Heitlager, head of powerhouse Dutch label Rush Hour. Antal set in motion an ambitious reissue campaign that includes an entire album’s worth of previously unreleased material called “Moonlight Fantasy.” Vincent came back to make up for lost time and, in 2016 he released his first EP on his own Dawn Notes Records.
Floyd is currently Djing, recording and remixing with clubs and record labels around the world.
