Placid aka Paul Wise is the chief operating officer at ‘We’re Going Deep’ – an online community and record label, born out of a lifelong love affair with the many shades of electronic rhythm and an obsession for collecting records since 1988. With a mission to share and release new music via his We’re Going Deep and We’re Going Back imprints: you’ll find only the best in Acid, Electro, IDM, Techno and Deep House for the dance floor and your listening pleasure.

Kicking off 2025, the next WGD release welcomes the sounds of self confessed stateside Techno poser Troy Anderson to the imprint. A core part of the much treasured Down Low crew from Texas, he has previously released some mightily excellent records as Cityboy and Waverider way back when, both of which were recently re-issued on We're Going Back. As DFD, Anderson first appeared on Down Low Music compilation 'Satellite Cities' back in 2001. However, it took until 2024 for his first full EP to materialize. A somehow wonderful glitch in time, DFD productions fit easily into the early 00s canon of purist machine made magic, harboring a timeless resonance that emanates equally from a future dimension. Bringing an all important touch of human feeling to his work that is as essential as it’s comes.

Offering up 3 original cuts alongside a top shelf rework from ERP (aka Convextion), the A Side kickstarts with an all encompassing, yet subtly acid inflected Electro jam. As gently sweeping rhythms breeze into your consciousness, a deftly programmed 303 creeps underneath a bubbling lead that takes center stage. Wave after wave of chorded atmosphere builds as the track takes shape, it bursts further into life as glorious high notes add another simmering layer to the mix. A wild yet sumptuous ride, this is craftmanship of the highest order. Accompanied with a remix from the original Texan space cruiser ‘ERP’, the remix injects a touch more pace to the original and drifts fully into realms of photonic fields, drenched in cavernous reverb and outerworldly effects.

On the flip side, B1 ‘Evening At Kokopelli’ orbits back towards earthly plains as Anderson veers into swirling melodics and lushly stringed elements, all powered by a solid 909 rhythm structure and bubbling acid line. A display of playful prowess that is as hypnotising, as it is enchanting. The soundscape is invitingly warm and shifts your optic over to a whole new dimension. Ending out on the pacey 2 step beat of ‘Metallic Dreams’, Anderson opts for a sparser approach as splashes and layers of filtered pads take their course, as melodic elements rise above powerful FM bass tones and fill the void with perfect measure. On this evidence, the music has most definitely been worth the wait and on this form – DFD is a name to keep sight of in the years ahead.

The highly prolific and stylish Konerytmi returns to Analog Concept Records in high funk resolution with the Megapikseli Ep.

Experience tricky video game vibes from both analogue and digital synths inside this pack of slick electro tracks; beginning with Kirsikka, highlighted by rubbery bassline funk, laser zaps, sharp 808  rhythms and awakening pads complimenting the attack. 

Then there is the moody and groovy title piece, Megapikseli, heavy on the bass, with intricate clever electro percussion, and fog light chords, formulated to leave your mind stimulated and pixelated; reinforced by an abstract remix in its own cinematic world from the vision of Fleck ESC. 

Flip to side B for the twin, Mikropikseli, bringing more of sunlit aura, cosmic atmospheres, emerald textured leads, and playful, vivid effects to the set. 

Lastly, is the late night electrosoul aura and rhythm resonating from Puro; confident with rolling acid basslines, starry fx, to pure dark and lovely melody, guaranteed to emit grooves of energy easily. 

For the lovers of immersive electro, marinated in the classy flavor of cartridge era platform games, Megapikseli Ep by Konerytmi is the real deal system to entertain.

Italian artist Recut is back with a new four-track outing that comes steeped in the lovably mad energy of acid, the enduring rawness of the Chicago underground and the drum sounds of New York. He has been active since the 90s so has a great through-line to these foundational styles but makes them his own here. Interestingly he started producing with turntables and mixers after being inspired by DMC champion so brings a real live feel to his sounds. 'Narcotic Tango' is a full-throttle pumper, 'Acid Street' layers undulating 303 lines into silky and elastic drums and 'Jack O Acid' gets more intense and in your face. 'Feel The Heat' shuts down with some trippy synth colours.

The sky overcast, the air a bit chilly and flecked with an occasional rain drop. Spring is looking a bit subdued at the moment here in Brooklyn. All being said, there is still an energetic feeling when walking through the city and seeing the evening come alive with the comings and goings of a million people.

Like a perfect soundtrack to a night time ride through New York, Margaux Gazur’s forth-coming LP on Smallville gives feelings of introspection albeit with a bit of a twist. Through deft use of softer melodic pads, and interesting percussive patterns, Margaux keeps things fresh and lends an edge to a familiar auditory locale.

Su Phu, coming at C1 on the double vinyl release (digital as well, so don’t worry there) starts as a dark, rolling affair, with crunching textured sounds panning around rhythmic bass lines that persist throughout. As the track progresses, bright melodies come into play to lighten the mood and even contribute to a dynamic, ever shifting groove that constantly keeps your attention pinned.
