Gone Baby Records returns with a new release from South Texan duo Nudo who, in just under 30 minutes, aim to evoke a kind of reverence for the ghostly grandeur of rural and agricultural hubs along the Texan border. The release was recorded across South and Central Texas over the better part of a year. On ‘Acequia’, the nearly 5 minute sprawling sound collage echoes isolation, soundtracking a desolate area which drifts in and out of company. Driven by a subdued piano melody, ‘Acequia’ feels almost haunted by the business of vocal samples and moody synths that scatter in and out of hearing.

"Neonatufian Intercession" Is Taken From Heal Spell, A Small Suite of Mixfile Crafts and Originally Produced Music Recorded In The Aftermath Of Xovington’s Unfortunate Attempt To Inscribe A Wacky Satirical Fiction Onto Reality Throughout The Years of 2020, 2021, and 2022… Using Their Own Spine.

Each Article Within The Suite, Individually, Is An Attempt To Soundtrack A Physical Teleportation Sequence OUT Of The Cape Fear River Basin Region Of The Carolinas AND INTO A Promising New Territory On The Shores Of Miami Beach.

Furthermore, a declaration Xovington makes on their META-owned instagram account notes their interest to invite into the world “Civil Conceptions Of Planet That Tessellate And Transform With Respects To Ordinal Social And Moral Need”.

On their personal website, Xovington declares their aims (at the time of this works’s production) primarily reducing to an “attempt to engage a quantum age civility's utility of the cybernetic in the interest of circumventing post-contemporary [order]...” and, as well, circumventing the “discords” that order invites through its relation to “cybernetics”.

With Visited by Strangers, Pablo Betas returns to the melodic roots of his musical practice as Bungalovv. The release's introspective, even tender, sound marks a shift away from the aggression of his previous work, while retaining the cinematic flair and painterly texture that have become trademarks of the Argentinian musician's sound.

Composed during the pandemic, Visited by Strangers is nevertheless decidedly collegial, with four of its seven tracks being (remote) collaborations with other artists. Notably, it includes Bungalovv's first-ever tracks to feature guest vocalists, and the release is also strewn with field recordings sent from a friend who was under lockdown on an Argentinian peninsula.

These conditions mean that Visited by Strangers is charged with the tension between strangeness and familiarity, or intimacy and distance. As song titles such as "Sharing Spells" and "Last Videocall" suggest, the tracks here evoke a world where human connection is mediated in fragile and fleeting, yet beautiful, ways.
