When I first heard this piece by Hang Massive I instantly heard subtle trap grooves flowing in and around their beautiful Hand Pan melodies. This was mid-winter 2021 Melbourne lockdown. In my morning mycelium walks, the sun kisses my skin and blesses me with its warmth.

Music bloomed hope in me for the Sun's Rays to once again shine on humanity as it passed through its darkest passage of the pandemic. And so it seems fitting now as we move on beyond the most challenging parts of the pandemic, for this sunlight to shine for you with its release.

This was my opening set for Astrix in San Francisco at Public Works SF for Dreamstate and TranceFamilySF's 13 year anniversary!

I had an amazing time warming up for one of my all-time favorite artists! 

I got a lot of compliments on this set; many people said it was their favorite set they ever heard from me, which was cool to hear! I put my heart and soul into this one so I'm glad it resonated with so many.

Thank you to my friend Connor aka Seventh Sign for the recording of my set who also played an amazing set before me!

The process of creating this album, Realm of Awe, has been quite different compared to any of my other albums. It started from a place, where after COVID and the confusion it created I felt like being in a crossroad. Something massive just happened in a world that made us all vulnerable and removed joy to explore, create and share anything with each other. At the same time, it did allow some time to see things from different perspectives, break patterns. So eventually I felt like been at the crossroad, ready to take some news turns - explore.

One Sunday morning I was having a picnic with my wife and son outside of our property, a green valley where we can hear and see eagles, crows, swallows and gazillions of little birds roaming above the valley. We looked at the sky and saw this huge X, and my wife and I said to each other 'why do we keep seeing X in the sky all the time these days?' and as we all do in 2023, we googled it. 'What does seeing X mean?' - and it all was about change, renewing yourself, Phoenix raising from ash, Cyclical nature in life from birth to death to rebirth. What really caught my attention was the ouroboros, a snake eating its own tale. For me this was the 'skeleton-key' or the secret ingredient that I knew would reflect on my album as a theme. It was me, renewing myself but feeling that the process came from me, from inside me and not from outside pressure. I felt joy, release- and in Awe. I would say during the creating process, I felt that joy was pouring into the tunes. 

How did I end up with the name Realm of Awe? I started to get a bit geeky searching on meaning of ancient symbols and how different mythologies around the world were presenting change or transformation. And one night I saw a symbol from Nordic mythology which displayed Helm of Awe, this really powerful looking sign with eight fork-like arms that was noted as symbol of protection and power. It was particularly said that it allows its wearer to overcome fear and be protected, and that God Odin wore it. And the Helm of Awe was often show next to Odin's two ravens, Hugin and Munin which flew around the world informing Odin what's going on. And as my own son is called Raven Björn , this link is important to me. Most of my music and cover arts have some secret dedication to Raven, my little muse.

And that's how the album got its name, from the symbol it turned into a magical, protected, awesome place - Realm of Awe. For me it truly describes the journey and the destination behind this album. So, the idea of having a Realm of Awe -something terrifyingly awesome, like conquering your fears and landing on some new amazing dimension seemed like a way to go.
