We took a trip to Ikea
Needing somewhere to keep our forks
You were driving, i was sleeping
I’d had too much wine the night before

We pulled up at the carpark
You shook my shoulder and said
Wake up come on it’s time to go
And the radio went dead

Walking to the entrance
It suddenly felt imposing
Like the gates to somewhere biblical
A place that seemed to know things

We grabbed a trolley
And looked around the store
And everyone looked just like us
Buying fork holders and more

The place was filled with treasures
Scaling up and down the wall
The only way to win at life is to
Try to collect them all

Perfect snapshots of perfect lives
To transplant onto ours
So when friends come over
They’ll drop their jaws with oohs and ahhs and awe

But we’re fighting over dishes
And they’re fighting over cars
And there’ll never be a kitchen nice enough
To paper over ours

Cos a fork holder’s just a fork holder
And a ring’s just a ring
And somewhere out there someone’s happy
Just to sit outside and sing
