We're also stoked to announce this mix kicks off an ongoing LiT MIX showcase of Bristol’s vibrant multi-genre DJ squad the BootyBassDJs. With members representing for greater cultural inclusion within the spectrum of gender, race and sexuality; while playing booty-shaking sounds of all genres, pace and sensibility, the crew is stacked with tastemaking party-starter selectors Bungzo, Ngaio, Hannza, Devolicious, Adibah, Boz, Xylo & Fabienne. Fitting innit that we send off 2021 and welcome 2022 with LiT MiX 029 from BootyBassDJs founder Ngaio— This powerhouse creative force catalyzed our ongoing music exchange with her Bristol-based crew, which has kept us dancing all year. She is a host on Swu.fm, has released music on Durkle Disco and Archway UK, works as an inclusion consultant, is musical director of Bristol’s Bass Choir, and currently producing a Netflix documentary. INIT 2022

Around 10 years ago, I found this track and it resonated deep with me. I had a moment in life where I could take two paths, become an engineer and have basically a guaranteed income or follow my dream of making art and suffering through the challenges of scarcity.

I've been slowly making the hard push of creating more music and honing in my production skills. I often play bangers because that's the slot I'm booked for but love putting together more downtempo mixes.

I wanted to share this because I had a weekend of feeling like my dreams were coming to fruition. Like this silly, unlikely plan was beginning to take shape. I played one of my own produced songs in a set, which was a goal I had set a year ago, and it felt SO GOOD. (more on that later ☺️)

Anyways, I remixed this song as a reminder why I do what I do, and that it's going to always be fucking hard. That with each goal accomplished there are many more unforseen challenges lingering to jump at me. And I do it because it creates a life worth living. I hope this song inspires you to follow your heart, offer compassion for yourself and everyone around you, and to keep trying, especially when the challenges feel unsurmountable.
