Glittering Waves

This is a remake of my original "Legacy of the 90s" done entirely on a Roland MT-32 module. I did this sometime back in 2013 and forgotten about it, but dug it out recently. The 8-Bit Guy is using this version in his latest episode about the MT-32 module. ;)

XM Remake time!

Nothing too fancy about this one, just a good excuse to build some floaty pads in Harmor. The intricacies of layering pads is a great challenge in both sound design and arrangements, especially when there's not really anything interesting happening melody-wise.

I ended up straightening the bassline significantly, since the drums are frantic enough on their own. The drum kit is just a pitched-up smashed Superior Drummer kit with a synthetic kick for that sweet sub.

Let's go back to 1989 and perhaps Sierra's most famous Space Quest game: SQ3 and our hero Roger Wilco. And why not match the iconic sound track from Bob Siebenberg (the drummer from Supertramp) and Mark Seiberg with the KORG EX-8000, the rack version of the DW-8000 keyboard.

I've taken the liberty of tidying up some of the parts and making it more punchy as usual. I also felt the Fester Blatz and Monolith Burger themes could do with some 66% shuffle groove. ;)

The drums are Zenhiser Retro Drummer and Yamaha Motif XS-7.

EDIT: Re-uploaded a new version as the previous one had a track muted, and I fixed some problems with harmony. Silly me.

Heavily influenced by Justin E. Bell's magnificent piece "Journey's End" in the end of the game "The Outer Worlds". I wanted to experiment and see if I could manage to make a similar piece with only three chords like the original, so I used the same pacing, mostly the same instrumentation, and the same structure for the piece.

This piece is in no means an original composition, and it's not meant to be, but a more of an experiment into orchestral composing, and my humble tribute to the piece that was my inspiration.

* Re-mixed and re-uploaded a new version, the original mix had some noise issues that I wanted to get rid of.
