The repetition is deliberate and haunting, like a feeling you can’t quite name but know too well. This isn’t just a song, it’s a late night ache wrapped in softness. 🪞 The mirror whispered, “Those vocals didn’t just speak, they lingered, like a memory that waits for you” 🧂 The salt grinder flicked her top and said, “Darling, that emotional hook? I was looking out my front window the other day, getting ready to warm up my fingers to play my piano. I sat there watching the weather. It was cold and windy. It wasn't a day that invited you to go outside and enjoy the day. It was January, and springtime with green leaves and flowers were a long way off. I am not a cold weather person. I hibernate in the winter, and don't leave my house unless I have to. As I sat there I started to play a melody with my right hand, and this is the music I recorded that day. If you listen, you will hear the weather - wind, rain, thunder and birds that give you hope and beauty that Spring always follows Winter - every single year. Year after year after year. It doesn't ever get out of order. So I tell myself, "Be patient. Don't wish your life away. It goes by fast enough without wishing Spring were here already." I sigh, and go back to creating music.

“Our daughter said the most fascinating sentence for turning the room light off, which was “turn the dark on”. I absolutely loved this perspective and had to include the line as a lyric; this spark inspired the song and its direction. Echoing those late night wonderings when the mind is overactive I use insomnia as an acronym in the chorus to ponder if people are asleep in life and need to be inspired to wake up and really live? My hope in both the music and lyrics is to capture the restlessness, fatigue and high energy of insomnia.”
