We have had great success with our first series of VA releases called Edition, for which there were 3 parts. This year, we present our next Various Artists release, named Atlas.

This LP features both established artists and newcomers to the scene, as well as label staples and label newcomers. Atlas features Deft, Visages, Drone, Nymfo, Monty, Alix Perez, Echo Brown, Foreign Concept, Headland, Safire, DRS, Nymfo, and of course, Eprom. Atlas is a journey through numerous styles and tempos, showcasing a group of the most talented artists in bass music today.

Atlas/ 1 will be released on digital on 9th July 2021 - and also as a 3 piece vinyl set which will be available for shipping in September.

The follow-up to last year's 'NQ State of Mind' mix project is headed by two of The North Quarter's most enduring artists: Redeyes and Fox. Mixtapes represent an important symbol of the formative years of many of the artists on this Amsterdam-based label and so it's only right that the tradition is continued by Redeyes and Fox, who both have a long history as music enthusiasts. Consisting solely of TNQ music - including 10 exclusives - this is NQ State of Mind, Vol 2.

  Throughout 31 tracks, mixed by 'smooth operator' Redeyes and backed with Fox's uplifting vocals, this is a journey through The North Quarter's five year catalogue. All artists that make the label the respected entity it is today are featured as well as some unexpected faces. The 10 exclusive tracks will be released on a 2x12” gatefold LP to accompany the mix.

1. Cause I am me

Rotterdam steps at 160-bpm through drum’n bass territory with a heavy baseline under the utmost funkiness of Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rappers Delight’, sampled from the original Incredible Bongo Bands’ ‘Apache’ song.

While being true to the genre this track also shows its experimental auditive roots with feedback reverbs, shaped from bell sounds and the central ‘run’ vocal sample. The track slowly transverses into a more technoid direction with a hypnotic high-pitched bongo, a sample which Wax Doctor once introduced into Jungle and had taken from the same 1970’s Apache song.

Rotterdamers certainly wouldn’t identify with the sound as very rotterdamish, but Francis maintains that the track is a very personal memory of the city.
