A little story about this song - we went into the session not sure how the verse OLLIE POWERS had written would sound against this weird ass beat. He went in with the mindset of “we’ll do a reference recording to see how we vibe it and see what can be improved.” Two and a half minutes later and that first take ended up being the last take. I mixed and mastered the track that night. This all happened just over two weeks ago.

This is one of those flash in the pan moments where you don’t overthink shit and strike gold. Couldn’t be more keen to kick off 2023 with this gem 🔥🔥

OLLIE POWERS x Visceral Sound - MAC N CHEESE

After jamming with some new travelling friends in Kuranda, QLD- we decided to set up an impromptu recording studio in a tent at our campsite.

With me producing, Lidia playing guitar, Decca on the bass and Katja singing- we rolled up a couple joints to help relax and get the creativity flowing. The inspiration (and the smoke) clearly hit us very quickly as that night we made 'Kuranda Joints'. 

It all came together super naturally in the session with everyone just having fun, bouncing off each other and sharing their talents on the track. Everything that was recorded that night in the tent studio has been left mostly unchanged- to keep it sounding simple, organic and raw as was the vibe :)

Kuranda Joints

October Edition of ON TRACK w/ chandy

Was meant to be working at the avocado farm today in Mareeba, FNQ but I chucked a sickie and made this song instead. 

I left this month's track to the very last minute, but over the year I've become much more confident with these releases and so I trusted that it would come together anyway.

So today, I finally set up the studio at my spot at the Riverside Caravan Park and while everyone else was out working, I conceptualized, produced, wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered "Love's a Habit". 

I'm pretty proud of this one, especially for being made in a day and without any help- I think it sounds pretty great. But most importantly, I proved to myself that I could do it under the pressure of the deadline.

I'm happy and enjoying life, hope you are too <3

This month has been hectic as- I finished working at the Avo Farm then spent almost 3 weeks travelling the Daintree Rainforest with some friends. 

I've barely had any time (or electricity) to make music but I've been determined to meet my monthly song release goal for 2023. So damn close now...

So even after nearly rolling my car off a fucking hill yesterday, I was still determined to do this. So I got a private room, and started working and what came of that is a weird existential but also laidback song called 'Spitting Image'

'Spitting image' is a jazz influenced track with a personal touch and themes surrounding self growth and heritage.

Hope you enjoy, I'm drained as hell but proud that I did it again.

I made and released 12 new songs this year while solo travelling the east coast of Australia. Keeping to deadlines amongst all the chaos has helped me shed so many hang ups when it comes to creating and releasing music and (after a bit of a break) I feel way more ready to make some bigger moves.

This final song marks my return to the home studio. Which I've since realized I don't necessarily need, but damn does it make life easier. 'not anymore' came together in a day (as usual at this point). Its pretty simple and sparse in its arrangement but feels rich and full to me.
