For Budgey, the musical path was embarked upon from a relatively young age. Experiencing the dizzying highs of electronic events initially in his late teens, Daniel Bugeja was instantly beset with a desire for a more personal level of musical involvement. Wanting to be the one responsible for facilitating the dancefloor vibe in comparison to being a component of it, DJing quickly became the goal for Budgey.

Now more than half a decade into this journey, his deep, ruminating take on techno music has been a staple component of the collective Equinox showcases. Drawing particular influence from seeing deep techno’s finest acts on the European stage, Budgey is persistent in his desire to improve as an artist as he ventures into production. An avid fan of nature, for Budgey the physical & spiritual worlds remain permanently intertwined - a connection he shares through a sound that is both proudly organic and powerfully hypnotic.

Budgey has notably supported world-renowned acts inclduding Matrixxman & Deepbass, while also playing at both multiple editions of LUFT and Burning Seed festival.

3 QUESTIONS to MARC HOULE:

Q: First of all thanks for your mix and the video you made of it. Let's talk about your roots: How did you get in touch with electronic music once?

A: Way back when, Electronic music really only existed in the realms of computers and science fiction. It represented a romantic dream of the unexplored future which was suddenly being made available to people en masse. Something clicked in my head and I wanted to explore these feelings and the electronic sounds became the soundtrack.  I’ve been chasing that dragon ever since. 

Q: How did you spend your days since the lockdown in early 2020?

A: So many phases have happened. I went from optimism to depression back to hope and scattering around trying to reinvent myself and trying to figure out how exactly I can make best use of this downtime.  It’s steered me back to the sounds and feelings I originally felt and allowed me time to focus once again.  I am rediscovering old synths, songs and cassettes and reworking them in a modern way.  It’s fun.

Q: Which future projects are on the way and what are you currently working on?

A: Right now I’m putting together a live set for Paxahau, the fine people who do the Detroit Movement Festival each year.  My itemsandthings.com Bandcamp page is updated and a new release should be up there soon. I’ve been exploring the Roland TR-8s a little more in-depthly and getting ready to dive into the new Ableton 12.  I’m also doing a bit of sound design for corporations as a means to keep that part of my brain busy.  Last night I had a dream I had 2 shows booked in France this weekend.  It’s strange for the last 15 years of my life to exist only in a dream state.

Well…that time of the year again! Christmas…and it’s a different one for most of us. 
Normally we’re going down south to Austria to visit my mum but this year due to covid it’s all a bit different. We’re staying here in Berlin. So, I guess there’s going to be loads of music around Christmas this year in the bird’s nest.

Also I will start a new stream coming up on twitch soon, so be sure to check out my socials for updates on that.

Anyway…let’s bring this year to an end with the final two episodes of this year…a lot has happened. Some things came to an end and some new exciting projects arised. I’m really looking forward to the next year with loads of new music coming from my end plus of course my startup seeqnc and much more….stay tuned

Chrysis (Crisys) as she is lovingly known by her family, is the moniker of Christina Nem. Originally from North East India, she believes in keeping her music fluid and genre-neutral. All of this echoes through her sounds which is experimental, uplifting, spacey, galactic and psychedelic with an explosion of flavours ranging from old to futuristic sounds.
