Visionquest is back with the second part in their VQ X series that celebrates 10 + years of the infamous dance label. 

The record kicks off in sublime fashion with one of the most important underground producers of the last 20 years...Mathew Jonson.  "These Tears" delivers a driving 808 with arpeggiated synths weaving through mystic key tones and perfectly crafted percussion that he so well respected for all these years. It's as if you're flying through space at hyperspeed while also in your calmest state.  An absolute transition gem to take you higher or bring you down with ease.

Cesar Merveille continues to keep the bar high with "Decennium". The music somehow perfectly straddles the line between the future and the past with beats that hint at that 90's digital vibe, while also keeping the ultra modern modular analog sound.  Pro tip: Also check his CSR moniker on his own Roche Madame imprint for more!

On the flip, the B side starts with Gianluca Pegoiani's "Wonder Wheel", a big bumpin' jam with sub tones that slowly rise and fall in pitch. Aleatoric punctuations bounce around with a bell synth pattern and a syncopated repeating key tone that keeps the track moving expertly forward.

Rounding out the EP is Dirty Pathways from VINYL SPEED ADJUST. A dope, low slung groove, it pops with elements of live drums and a driving bass ties it together. Slowly synths and pads build under the surface to reveal a very cool mood to finish the EP.

This record will no doubt be a standout moment for the already immense and highly creative catalog of Visionquest and a solid addition to the VQ X series.

Following the smash hit “Summer Beach Edition Compilation” and Dinky’s positively carnivalesque “Time to Lose” EP, Visionquest’s latest collection showcases the label at its curatorial best. Offering up three elegant tracks from across the broad spectrum of dance-oriented electronica. The inspiring juxtaposition of David K, My Favorite Robot and Mirko Loko together on the Fall/Winter Collection works to create a remarkably unified whole, a versatile remarkable collection for the ensuing darkening months.

Following a recent slate of releases on celebrated labels like Freak n Chic, Tsuba, and Supplement Facts, France’s David K starts things off with some serious genre bending.  ‘Ghost Train’ is both lyrically driven and musically driving. Centered around a galloping, urgent synth line and snarling, disaffected vocals depicting the despondence and monotony of urban life. David K’s distinctive production is evocative of British Post-Punk artists such as Gang of Four, John Foxx or P.I.L., but through a post-modern techno vortex, this is like nothing you will hear this year!

An equally innovative, contemporary homage to the earliest experiments in romo-tech, celebrated remixers and recent addition to the Crosstown’s crew, My Favorite Robot’s ‘Forest Fires’ is reminiscent of Carl Craig, Human League and Benoit & Sergio rolled up one heady exotic blend, a truly unique and outstanding track that is already gaining a lot of expediential heat.

While Side A represents Visionquest bringing together the best in off-kilter electronic pop, on the flip side they return to their love of the outer-boundaries and experimental possibilities of the dance genre. A key component of the Swiss dance scene and recent member of the Cadenza roster, Lausanne native Mirko Loko extends Visionquest 07’s melancholic vibe with “Gloria,” a 13 minute odyssey that does for sound what CinemaScope did for film.  Sweeping, audacious, and nothing short of panoramic, in ‘Gloria’ a serpentine melody curls around almost imperceptible moments of micro-percussion worthy of the best of Villalobos. Simply put, this is music for the sunrise after…

Visionquest Fall/Winter Collection makes clear that the label shares the philosophy of every great curator: keep challenging your audience with a coherent diversity—disparate pieces that work together to extend and develop a singular mood.

Visionquest have made a big impact in their first two releases on the imprint from Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves. Now they fill up the dancefloor with light on ‘Dark Song’ EP from the compelling Tale Of Us.

Engulfing the listener in a luscious wall of sound from the onset of ‘Dark song’, Tale Of Us take an abstract and harmonious approach to their music. Understated beats and yearning vocals stretch the imagination to new heights in a new strain of house music engaging the senses through warm tapestries of sound.

Using similar low-end whispered sounds that resonate in a deep place, ‘Circle Of Love’ is a magnetic slice of dancefloor music. Its skipping beats and rippling bass enthralls but it’s the sensual vocal that gives ‘Circle Of Life’ a special edge and adds an element of mystery. ‘Valiant’ completes the package with an epic dose of bubbling beats and pads, inventing a masterpiece hybrid of techno and deep house leaving you spellbound.

Tale of Us are Berlin-based DJ and production partnership Karm and Matteo who are currently re-writing the rulebook for deeply moving, emotional electronic music. Together they share a sonic vision that pulls together elements of house and techno with influences from pop, nu-disco and even rock music. While all of their productions are instantly recognisable as Tale Of Us, these range from straight-up dance floor jams to low-slung ambient tracks and more abstract compositions. While both originally hail from North America, Karm was born in Toronto and Matteo in New York, they moved to Italy as children, which is where they met and formed the close working bond that they now share.

At present they are based in Berlin, an inspirational frontier, which has given them numerous opportunities to build relationships with fellow musicians who share their unique musical outlook and resulted in this special Visionquest release. Prior to this, Tale Of Us tracks could be found on labels such as Barraca Music, Cocoon' and Life & Death (the Tale Of Us remix of Thugfucker ‘Disco Gnome’ on Life and Death was hailed by Mixmag as one best records of 2010) and have put out various remix collaborations with fellow Visionquest label mates Shaun Reeves & Ryan Crosson. Following the more house & techno focused Spring Club Collection, The Visionquest dream team return with the sun-dappled Summer ‘Beach Collection’, starring Maceo Plex, Tale Of Us and Pillow Talk.

Part II of the Spring Summer Collection features a fresh selection of summer jams – a three-tiered melting pot of hot talent, dishing out a warm mix of sun drenched house steeped in soul, both dusky and bright, with an 80’s disco infusion. This next installment is testament to the ever-changing moods and winds across Visionquest sonic footprint. It sounds like the breeze and the heat of a memorable summer romance, soul music for the feet.

House maestro Maceo Plex steps up first with the bittersweet summer anthem ‘Falling’, the dreamy vocal drifts into the uplifting melody, funky guitar licks and subtle undercurrents of softly jackin’ beats build into psychedelic waves of hooky synths. Maceo Plex’s recent superb singles and Life Index album on Crosstown Rebels is a contender for album of the year.

Hot on the heels of the moody, epic ‘Dark Song EP’, Tale Of Us are back representing Visionquest with the deep melancholy of ‘Winds Of Change’. Eerie atmospheres unfold with gently broken beats, minor key bass notes and a mysterious vocal cut that penetrates the soul with its yearning clarity.

Sammy D aka Pillow Talk has been a fixture on the San Francisco house and techno scene for the past 12 years, having released as Justin Martin & Sammy D on luminary labels such as Derrick Carter’s Classic Records, Ben Watt's Buzzin'Fly and Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird. Sammy's new project Pillow Talk (alongside production partners Michael Tello and Ryan

Williams) is straight up soul dance music. Influenced by the great RnB singers of the 50s and 60s, Sammy’s velvet vocals displayed here in the majestic ‘Love Makes Parks’ wash over the laid-back, swinging groove and the message is clear; It’s the Visionquest summer of Love.

Renowned for their sublime, lyrical take on dance music, DC / Berlin based duo Benoit & Sergio return to their spiritual home of Visionquest with some freshly crafted groove ridden thrills. More set in the smoke and heat of the club than their vocalised bittersweet visions, the ‘Your Darkness’ EP showcases the duo at their dancefloor focused playful best whilst incorporating infectious vocal samples, searing melodies and pulsing rhythms. Opener ‘Splash’ is at once murky and tropical as the bassline grinds underneath light footed percussion whilst title track ‘Your Darkness’ is a deep and moody groover with signature rich synth work. Closing track ‘Beat Macho’ is a wayward beast with a darker edge and satisfyingly complex chugging framework that makes for a heady trip into the depths of the night.

o+ Leaving an indelible mark on a selection of pioneering labels since 2009 - Spectral Sound, DFA, Hot Creations, Culprit and of course Visionquest have all fallen prey to Benoit & Sergio’s unique brand of sensuous electronics. The duo first appeared on Visionquest for the imprints’ inaugural release in 2011 ‘Where The Freaks Have No Name’ featuring the ubiquitous ‘Walk And Talk’ - a quintessential slice of romantic techno. Then in late 2012 the ‘New Ships EP’ further demonstrated the duo’s ability to mix visceral energy with the emotional.   

o+o Gaining the title of iTunes breakthrough electronic artists of the year in 2011 and featuring in RA’s best live act poll in 2011 and 2012, they also had the tracks ‘Everybody’, ‘Principles’, ‘Let Me Count The Ways’, and ‘Walk and Talk’ variously charted in top 20 year-end polls for Resident Advisor, Mixmag and DJ Mag. The duo have since been enlisted to remix heavyweights such as Matthew Dear, Metronomy, Hot Natured and covered Daft Punk.

Like stepping into a warm electronic sound bath, Chaim’s latest release for Visionquest ripples with pulsing sonic textures and propels forward at a softly galvanic pace as the slowly emerging melody takes hold in ‘Underwater’. B side ‘Remember When’ is just as compelling - a slightly tougher edge and darkly euphoric atmosphere injected with sporadic chimes, disembodied voices and dramatic synth stabs. This is a truly hypnotising release.

Now being based in the hub of electronic talent that is Berlin, Chaim is still a true stand out artist in today's fast paced digital world. After a wave of stunning releases on labels such as Supplement Facts, Cocoon and MBF, for a time Chaim worked exclusively with the Berlin based BPitch Control imprint. His acclaimed debut album 'Alive' released spring 2011 on the label and this season his monster Ibiza anthem ‘Blue Shadow’ (on Rumors), has proven his powerful, individual productions to be some of the highest quality club tracks around.

Fusing solid bass heavy grooves, clearly inspired by his love for those classic jacking Chicago jams, hypnotic synth hooks, trademark affected percussion, live instrumentation and vocal snippets, Chaim's unique and organic sound always makes an impact. Underpinned by top-class studio knowhow, his crisp, forward thinking records are a joy to drop in front of even the biggest crowds.

May 2020 sees Gianluca Pegoiani drop his Visionquest debut in the form of the "Fifth Room EP".  Pegoiani has been collecting records, analog machines and hitting the clubs since the mid 90's, taking inspiration from the greats like Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin and Derrick May.  He has lived all over the world and has worked as a promoter at Mazoom / Le Plaisir, Vice and Blok in Brescia, Italy.  In addition to collaborating with duo Polydrum for Skream's "Of Unsound Mind" label he has also produced releases for NGtrax and Rebirth Records.

The Fifth Room EP comes in hot with the fast paced A1, "One Room". Filling the space with rising and falling rhythmic sounds secured by a fat kick. Ethereal, almost choral pads emerge that give way to a skittery, chopped up vocal. In the second half of the track, the gate on the vocal opens up and the sound fills up with even more drenched pads.

For the A2, Berlin staple and fellow Italian DJ and producer Hubble checks in with his take on "One Room". The remix enters with methodical kicks and shifting bass tones, as seemingly 'found sound' percussion scrapes through the dense bass. The vocal peers in from a distance as the back half of the track undulates between bass tones, vocal and metallic percussion.

On the B2, "One Key", begins with reversed strings where u can almost hear the bow sliding back and forth. An indistinguishable vocal loop brings the listener back into the kick/snare and ricocheting percussion hits that bounce around the spectrum. New reversed strings jump in giving a nostalgia drenched Mediterranean vibe that somehow brings a tense energy. The tension continues to build until the end, leaving the listener excited and in anticipation for the the artists next offering.

Every mystical journey eventually comes to a fork in the road. The seeker of life’s destiny has two options: remain satisfied with whatever level of consciousness he has already attained, or push forward into ever-new domains of promise and possibility. 2014 sees dance music’s best-known spiritual pilgrims, the Visionquest trio of Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, and Shaun Reeves, bravely embarking upon that wondrous journey. Each member of this celebrated DJing and production team contributes a distinct yet interlocking vision that together forms a seamless, organic whole. Just think of Crosson’s enthusiastic shuffle, Lee’s soulful stare, Shaun’s soft touch. Everything they craft has the same unmistakable flair: slow-burning, shape-shifting, expansive techno and house marked by compositional elegance and unabashed pop hooks.

Although long-time partner and co-conspirator Seth Troxler has stepped aside to pursue other projects, 2013 was the biggest year ever for the four. Inspired by the passing of the Mayan calendar, the group embarked upon Visionquest 13, 13 dates where the boys not only played together the whole night, but curated a true multimedia experience. From London to Buenos Aires, from the American hinterland to the Chilean wilderness, Visionquest 13 was a Freudian trip into the deepest recesses of the Detroit rave unconscious, what Ibiza Voice described as a “collective expedition into the depths of your soul”—but with a sophisticated, modern twist.

Their accomplishments are well-known and too many to list. For starters: a critically acclaimed 2011 Fabric mix; year-defining hit remixes for artists as diverse as Kiki, Wareika, Tracey Thorn, and David Lynch; showcases and dates in the biggest clubs and festivals around the world; and the creation of a now iconic-label that’s played host to dancefloor weaponry from the likes of Benoit & Sergio, Life & Death, Dinky, and Laura Jones—all this while each member maintained significant individual production and DJ careers. But, by definition, no journey dwells in the past. So in 2014 they launched Visionquest Special Editions, a limited-release, vinyl only label. Evoking the experimental sounds of the European techno avant-garde that first inspired the boys back in Detroit, the debut release, remixes of Montreal songwriter Quilla, features a stunning collaboration between Shaun and long-time hero Ricardo Villalobos. With Visionquest Special Editions we see the group at home at a breezy, gentle afterparty, not just igniting the club. As Visionquest winds around the corner into their bright future, they remain open and excited for what lies ahead.
