The V2E label by Vital Elements is back for 2018, having been left under the bass bin stack for years. What better way to kick things back off than with a huge colab with a certain veteran selector.

Combine a huge amount of knowledge, history and respect and the outcome is, without a doubt, Vital Elements and Micky Finn. This isn’t the first time these well established legends of the scene have come together, however, this time around it’s certainly a step above the rest. Welcome to the Control Sound EP - where egos are left at the door, inhibitions remain in the VIP queue and everyone comes together - just how it should be done.

“Control Sound”, a track originally featured on the Mixtape project via Serial Killaz is no doubt well known to many. It’s authentic, rough edged bassline vibrates around the speaker stack like no other and is certainly testament to the obvious good vibes that are created when both Vital and Micky link up.

Micky takes a step back to his early funkula days, and in some respects, “Need a Rhythm’ is not so dissimilar to his famous link ups with Aphrodite. Only this time around, it's a momentous combo with one half of the Serial Killaz. Well known glitched out house vocals slammed straight into a dose of jump up funk. This will make every bone in your body flex, twist and brock out.

Atmospheric introductions seems to be back with a bang right now and “The Right to Dream’ certainly doesn’t scrape the barrel when it comes to setting the scene. Picture a ton of haze sweeping the basement with only a green lazer licking through the crowd and you’re already in the zone. A steppy, breakbeat roller that not only overflows with emotion but works straight on the dancefloor. A cross between a chill out zone and straight out panic.

Wrapping up the EP with “The Noise”. A notorious head nodder that screams for an MC to ride it’s infectious narly bassline patterns and contagious breakbeats. If you can remember the Finn People label, this one would have come directly from it’s stable. 2007 meets 2018 some might say?

Hold up, that’s not the end of the EP - a bonus track has been chucked in the mix and this one has certainly been popular with the hijack massive. “Double Time Swing” features one hell of a crazy double bass element that has already been battering raves across the world. Ever so sneaky to slip this one in at the end, just make sure it doesn’t go unnoticed in your Rekordbox.

Expect more to come from both Vital Elements and Micky Pussyclot Finn. It was really only a matter of time..

Vital Elements isn’t stopping for anyone this year and with the vocal talents of Jennie Matthias gracing ‘Good Vibe’, this release from one half of the Serial Killaz is a full on onslaught of the senses.

For those old enough or simply well educated in dance music, you will no doubt recognise the classic lyrics used here. Totally reworked from scratch, Jennie Matthias’ powerful range compliments the hard hitting sublow basslines that roll in and out like a tidal wave. A clever take on what was once a house tune and certainly a credit to Vital Elements in terms of productions values. This has been doing countless damage on dubplate for a while so grab it onsight.

‘Good Over Evil’ flips the script on ‘Good Vibe’ with it’s snarls of rough and ready beats and bass. Perfect for darker nights, this nasty piece of work really is the direct opposite of the A side. A certified drum and bass roller if there ever was one!

Vital Elements has been on one of late and has literally been churning out hit after hit. If you follow his movements across various labels and platforms you will already know this guy really does have the Midas touch. Going straight in with a double A sided weapon..
‘Mushroom X’ is a growling beast of a tune, full of psychedelic twists and trippy basslines that would make even the most straight-laced junglist attempt some form of a shuffle skank. Chuck in a lovely old school breakbeat, B movie vocals and Vital Elements is no doubt onto a winner here. Just try and avoid those dusty old jars in your neighbours garden shed before listening.
Sinkhole forming ‘Transmission’ is literally ready to peel your skin off with its low end bass and swallowing soundscapes. This one blends darkside, menacing vibes with rolling beats and the odd atmospheric vocal sample. Ideally suited for the 4am shift to pull the ravers out of whatever hole they fell in or just to heighten the vibes. Either way, you’re sorted.

Global Cooling.. 

A reminder of where we are in the cycle of Interglacial periods. The Sun and it's cycles (11 year and more longer cycles) have been proven to match climate changes on earth. As we enter a period of quiet from the Sun. Our magnetosphere weakens and we are at far greater risk from solar and cosmic energy.

If the Sun stays quiet for the next cycles. Global cooling to the European northern hemisphere is a real threat. Warmth to Alaska will increase. Droughts in areas not used to droughts will increase. 

The solar activity impacts the jet stream. In periods of quiet Sun (Solar Minimum), the jet stream amplifies bringing colder air further south and warmer air further north creating unusual patterns and unseasonable weather. The last minimum was 2008/09. The lag effect gave Europe some of the coldest winters on record in 2009/10. As we enter 2020 the sun looks less active than last time. This should be interesting to see the effects this time. Last year many European countries had record snow. 

Will we enter a Dalton minimum, may be a Maunder minimum? The next 50 years all will become clearer, or colder..

Make The Floor Burn

Vital Elements - Make The Floor Burn - Out now at Juno

Here’s a question for you - how versatile is your favourite producer at the moment? One things for sure, Vital Elements is on top of his style game right now and with a string of varied releases in 2019, his latest offering is testament to this.

The EPs title track ‘Is It Enough’ lays down a foundation of smoothed out pads and gritty bass notes, a total contrast that not only works but flows directly through the speakerbox with an effortless glide. Light as a feather but (to quote Bassman) heavy like a wah. Certainly one for the MCs inna dance.

Both ‘Bass Monster’ and ‘Murda Riddim’ get the V2E hard nosed jump up treatment featuring a whole host of sounds from Vital Element’s outboard and synth playground. If you think you know about bass programming, you are in for a sonic treat with these bad boys.

‘Get Lit’ is, in some ways, a follow up to ‘The Shit That Booms’ from the ‘Global Cooling’ release. It’s itchy breakbeat consistently throws itself around the venue, contaminating the place with it’s funk influence vibes. It’s a weighty one, trust us.

Nothing can get in the way of Vital Elements work rate so be ready for a string of releases coming your way soon.
