One of my favorite 78s from my first years of collecting 78s. Found it again recently.  It is DOING THE BOOM BOOM ('29)  by Leo Reisman and his Orchestra on a Victor Orthophonic 78.  It's one of those tunes about how to do a particular new dance.

Singer Marion Harris recorded extensively in the US in the twenties then moved to England and appeared at the Cafe De Paris. Sadly, she died in a fire in 1944.  This is my English Columbia 78 of her singing MY CANARY HAS CIRCLES UNDER HIS EYES. She's accompanied here by Billy Mason and his Cafe De Paris Orchestra

Here a bouncy and infectious Ted Weems Victor side from late 1931, using the company's short-lived high fidelity microphone.  Apparently the sound range was TOO good, and the louder sections caused the grooves to wear out quickly.  Here is HATS OFF, HERE COMES A LADY.

Here is my recently acquired 16: Vitaphone soundtrack disk for the 1929 short HARRY ROSENTHAL AND HIS BATH AND ENNIS CLUB. ORCHESTRA. Rosenthal was a bandleader, songwriter, recording artists, and in the forties appeared in almost all of Preston Sturges' fils (often as a bandleader). Sadly, the picture (film) portion of this short is not known to survive. Bookending hot renditions of IDA and TWELFTH STREET RAG are two Rosenthal compositions: WAS IT LOVE and IF I COULD GET A BREAK WITH YOU.
