The next EP in Blueprint’s 25th birthday series sees another collaboration for label head, James Ruskin. Following EPs alongside both Truncate and Mark Broom, this time Ruskin teams up with DVS1 for "Chapter One".

Back in 2016 the label was celebrating its 20th anniversary and the release of the “Structures and Solutions” compilation which featured their track, “Page 1”.  As one of the highlights of the compilation, it received multiple plays on BBC Radio 1 and a place in Resident Advisor’s Top 50 Most Charted tracks during its month of release.

Taking the hugely atmospheric “Page 1” as their starting point, they continue with 3 more fully immersive techno “pages” to create this full EP.  

The EP closes with “Page 4”, a track that continues the huge atmosphere with a driving kick and hypnotic arpeggiated synth that ebbs and flows to take you on the techno journey you would expect from the two artists.

Function - Disaffected

The third release on Quintessence is the debut single by @yaroslavikonnikov, a promo resident who has recently immersed himself in producing.

Musically, the track Unpacked Karma is inspired by the aesthetics of low-tech, hypnotic and trance. Dense palisade bass, analog modulations, dreamy arpeggios and non-standard percussion pattern — that's the sound on our agenda.

Author's comment:

"For me, it's the soundtrack of an inner, deep journey. Sometimes it feels like an endless and pointless running in circles, but it's not. Each new entry is getting rid of excess and pretense, from all this bug—eyed fuss that prevents our mighty spiritual principle from manifesting."

After joining the Token family with the release of Our Father/A Better Way Of Living in 2015, Sigha is back with another double A-side in the same vein as the last: A booming, atmospheric achievement, once again showcasing his signature attention to detail and exploring the concepts of purity, faith and religion.
 
The resounding intensity of Christ Figures is layered with emotive and staccato melodic elements. At times distant, and then rising to the forefront of the soundscape; in their more muted moments these elements only hint at the form of a melody, their restraint heightening the track's sense of melancholic romanticism.
 
On the other side, Sigha advances on the themes from the track Puritan on his 2012 album Living with Ghosts. New Puritan offers a similar hypnotism, with an untiring interaction between mid-range and bass that demands transfixion from the offset and retains it until the end.

Berghain residents Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann link back to Ostgut Ton’s label launch in 2006 with their first studio collaboration in ten years and the extended Phantom Studies, on occasion of the one hundredth O-TON 12“ EP release.

With Phantom Studies Dettmann | Klock channel their first joined releases Dawning (2006) and Scenario (2007) from over a decade ago with their first co-production in ten years. On this extended, 40-minute 2x12" EP Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock parlay their deep personal alliance and musical repertoire through emphasis on new functional Techno as much as hypnotic, melodic and soulful music by thinking outside the box. Sigha’s lauded Metabolism album is further commended with a remix EP for Token 77. With three highly qualified label newcomers enlisted to the task of reimagining aspects of the album, the music is reworked into a new context to powerful effect. 
 
Wata Igarashi’s flourishing recognition as a producer with striking competence and flair has marked him as a valuable affiliate on the record. He demonstrates different areas of focus with two new versions of Black Massing. The Daylight Breaks Remix opens up the high-end, expressing the delicate harmonics of the original with rushing upward arpeggios. The Dusk Falls Remix instead hones in on the deep and anticipatory nature of its foundation. 
 
Marco Shuttle’s foreboding Morning Star remix feels skilfully subtractive, magnifying elements by adding space and drawing focus to its melodic asides. Function plays with the contemplative nature of Down in his version, adding dynamic percussion and energy while retaining its expression and depth.
