My World

La Danza Di Ale

To say goodbye to this extraordinary year that is ending and to celebrate 2019 I wanted to make public my elaboration of Maurice Ravel's BOLÉRO. 

90 years have passed since the composition of the work was performed for the first time on 22 November 1928 at the Opéra National de Paris.

In 1928 the great French musician Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) composed the famous BOLÉRO. 

Exactly 90 years later I arranged and partially recomposed the work in the light of my personal experience, merging various languages and structuring on a compositional level a remake with a contemporary flavor but with retro flashes in the history of the '70s Rock and in Electronic Music. All imbued with a subtle sense of Jazz and improvisation, in a performance that becomes a kaleidoscope of seemingly distant sounds, where the listener is projected in a phantasmagorical, imaginative perspective, in a global and timeless journey: this is part of the NEAD project, which stands for New Electro Acoustic Dimension.

I’m pleased to introduce to you NEAD, my new and still unpublished project, acronym of New Electro Acoustic Dimension.
 
This represents my personal intuition of contemporaneity that I realized in terms of writing, orchestration and performing during this hard time of lockdown due to covid19 virus.

TRA CONTINENTI DI NUVOLE

I recorded ‘’Armando’s Rhumba’’ more than twenty years ago. I was studying classic piano and was fascinated by the incredible sound of Chick Corea. So in this raw recording I merged both some Corea’s features and some of mine, trying to get as much as possible from this kind of approach, digging into the language and playing style of Corea and being myself at the same time. What a challenge! Actually, as a musician, I did this for some other pianists of the Jazz history, but today I’m very happy to have found this recording after a long time and to share it with you all, remembering such a great musician like him.

Armando's Rhumba (Chick Corea) - Vittorio Mezza Piano Solo

Vittorio Mezza is a pianist, composer, arranger and music professor.
After having completed his studies in classical music, he moved to Rome where he got his Diploma and Bachelor “cum laude” in Jazz Music from the S. Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome.
He studied with international musicians like Dave Liebman, John Taylor, David Sanborn and others.
He opened the concerts for the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Peter Erskine Trio and for the Mike Stern’s Band. He performed in Germany, France, USA, Canada, Africa. He was the only Italian pianist to compete in the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition 2005.
On the occasion of the Italian Jazz Music Referendum held by Top Jazz he was selected in the category “Best New Italian Talents 2006”. His albums are broadcast by radios worldwide and also have been selected by Alitalia Airline. He collaborates with RAI Radio Televisione Italiana. As a music professor he has been collaborating with the Conservatories of Reggio Calabria, Perugia and Verona. He also obtained the Chair of Jazz Piano at Conservatory A. Casella of L’Aquila. He is currently collaborating with Rome and Bologna Conservatories. His latest albums Napoli Jazz Songs - recorded in Canada with the VM American Trio - iand the Convergence Project - with the Australian saxophonist Mark Ginsburg - are both destined for the international market and will be released very soon.
