Detlef and Denney curate the fourth edition of the VIVa Warriors compilation, which is set for release on September 25th through Steve Lawler’s VIVa MUSiC.

Consistently at the forefront of the finest dance floor equipped and club ready productions, Steve Lawler’s VIVa Warriors events have rightfully cemented themselves in the premier tier of dance music’s party echelon. Each consecutive year, the renowned VIVa Warriors mix compilation showcases the finest offering of all things that the Warriors stand for. Now, it’s the turn of Greek born Alex Georgiadis aka Detlef, and British born Denney to masterfully weave an impeccable selection of dance floor certified tracks to the highest caliber.

"It all started with the idea to bring our friends together at a party, and that idea became VIVa Warriors. Now 4 years later, VIVa Warriors has become a universal thing, a part of everyone’s life, not only ours. I couldn't be happier to be a part of that, and provide with this compilation a small piece of the sound that's been played at Warriors. All the artists that associated with this compilation are the true meaning of underground house music so a big shout goes out to them.” - Detlef

Both Detlef and Denney are intrinsic to the VIVa family, holding residencies at the party’s spiritual home of Sankeys Ibiza, along with numerous releases via the VIVa MUSiC imprint. Detlef, first bursting onto the scene back in 2008 has formed an undisputed repertoire of groove ridden cuts and bass driven melodies, whilst Denney’s illustrious catalogue of releases such as the 2015 hit ‘Low Frequency’ have gained him international recognition as one of electronic music’s most sought after acts.

“VIVa Warriors is my first ever residency in Ibiza so to be asked to mix this years compilation for them in my first year is a great honour. A lot of work went into the mix and a massive thanks has to be said to all the artists who submitted tracks for it...there are some killers in there from some of my favourite artists!” - Denney

Detlef’s mesmeric fifteen-track selection captures the unparalleled sound and vision of VIVa Warriors, fusing together elegantly composed basslines from the likes of Hauswerks’ ‘I Feel Like Jammin’ with a deeper ambient production style provided by Bunte Bummler’s ‘Demo Cassette’. An offering of exquisite variety, Detlef elevates the true essence of VIVa Warriors selecting Robert James’ ‘House Invader’ along with Latmun’s ‘Who’s That’ where the crisp percussion and distorted vocal samples will echo out through sound systems of clubs and festivals across the globe.

Procuring the second mix on the compilation, Denney’s unquantifiable track choice travels through a host of contrasting house and techno subgenres. Opening the mix with Audiojack’s deep and bass laden ‘Elevate’, Denney continues to demonstrate his undeniable talent as DJ. Whether it be from performing at the white isles most infamous venues, or on his home turf in the UK, Denney’s musical prestige shines brightly through the compilation. A staggering selection of productions from house heavy beats from the likes of Jey Kurmis & Shannon’s ‘Wonadoodle’, to closing the compilation with the fittingly funk infused ‘So High Acid (Acid Dub), perfectly exhibiting why this fourth edition marks yet another milestone in the VIVa Warriors mix compilation series.

5. Mihalis Safras & Volkoder - Funko

We've been big fans of Brazil’s Volkoder since his podcast a few years back, he now releases the ‘Prospective’ EP on Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars, featuring 3 solid house tracks.

Having appeared on the likes of Material, Snatch!, Kittball and Suara, Marcos Benedetti’s talent as a producer is indisputable - even been tapped to remix the likes of Kerri Chandler and Guy Gerber. It’s therefore unsurprising that Volkoder’s productions have frequented the sets of Jamie Jones, Catz n’ Dogz and Tube & Berger, not to mention Lee Foss who’s now inducting him into his Repopulate Mars roster.

Our Debut Transmission, ‘Prospective’ immediately builds the energy levels with a popping bass, intoxicating vocals and consuming drum arrangements before ‘For Me’ opens up to echoing soundscapes and emotive vox edits, making it a tune impossible to stand still to. Finally, ‘Fools’ introduces fragmented percussion above a high-octane, pulsating bass line as clanging claps and a looped voice keep listeners locked in.

Started in October 2006 by Steve Lawler, VIVa Music began life as a conduit for the internationally renowned DJ and Producer to release the wealth of underground music he encountered on his travels. Now, just a few years later VIVa is a self-contained hotbed for new talent which draws attention from DJs, punters and producers alike. Having previously handled the now-classic and traditional vinyl label Harlem Records, Lawler decided VIVa was to be a forward thinking outlet for quality music and boldly announced that VIVa was to be digital only. As well as a clear mission to look towards the future of the music industry, this was a step to ensure that music could be released quickly and retain the freshness that the labels A&R was struck by. Far from the template set out by many of Lawler's contemporaries, VIVa quickly established itself as a label where artists could be themselves and write music that isn't defined by just A&R, but by one simple guideline: Quality. This has meant the label has gone on to release music from a wide range artists, from major players like Lawler and Audiofly through to burgeoning talent like Livio & Roby and Nicole Moudaber. In keeping with an ever evolving outlook, 2009 will see VIVa further transformed. Worldwide tour nights, Festival Arena, International Residency's and a new UK based residency at the legendary Ministry of Sound in London are just the tip of the iceberg. Always ones to buck trends, the VIVa family are pressing vinyl again alongside it's digital output as well as expanding its roster of relatively unknown talent rather than rely on the tried and tested. At the forefront of this exclusive roster of talent are the likes of Vrajitoroo, David Pher, Dragosh, Adroid Cartel, Jimmy Hill, Alex Tepper, TRNNSTR, Darius Syrossian & NYRA, Erphun and Sean Miller but VIVa will continue to work with what it considers extended family for both releases as well as remixes; which means the likes of Jamie Jones, Audiofly, Simon Baker, Tiefschwarz, Bearweasel, David Durango and many, many more. SHARGENOL 

Shargenol is a NYC based DJ that has always loved music since a young age; ranging from head banging heavy metal to deep funky disco. He fell in love with dance music years ago and dove head first into the scene and culture. He’s someone who’s been slowly curating a sound in a multitude of sets that span across different genre’s like techno, UK garage, 90s rave, breakbeat, 2000’s hits and tech house. Shargenol’s main playing style consists of high energy tech, dirty bass lines and unmatched mixing technique that makes him a must see in the underground NYC scene.
