A stellar career within the electronic music industry has seen Jamie Stevens rise to the very top of his profession. Making his full Meanwhile EP debut, the 3-track “Circles” continues his illustrious story.

A double ARIA winning artist with iconic live act, Infusion, Jamie Stevens’ solo career is no less impressive. A veteran of the global DJ circuit with performances at Womb (Tokyo), Fabric (London) and across his native Australia and Melbourne hometown, Stevens has continued to see productions feature regularly in the upper echelons of the progressive house chart.

With almost 400 production credits to his name, Dave Seaman’s Selador, John Digweed’s Bedrock and Guy J’s Lost & Found have all played host to the unique Jamie Stevens sound on multiple occasions as he continues to go from strength to strength. A meticulous approach to his production work and unrivalled attention to detail is coupled with a wider ability to see the bigger musical picture and his music infused with warm tonality and rich rhythmic patterns.

Returning to Meanwhile after a remix of Roger Martinez’s “Cosmic Drum” in late 2020, the “Circles” title track is characterised by a pounding club-friendly beat, while shades of Giorgio Moroder shimmer through the percussive groove and syncopated melodic elements. Building in hypnotic patterns, vocal shouts and a liberal sprinkling of reverse reverb effects and white-noise washes, join forces in a glorious harmony to create a typically impressive body-shaking floor-filler.

The aptly titled “Storm Front” quickly emerges with a subtle tension imbued within it. Continuing on the same mesmerising footing as its predecessor, an immaculately crafted groove, redolent in sub-bass and off-beat percussive roll, powers through the 8-minute timeframe. Subtly synthesised and reverb drenched vocal cuts shimmer across the upper-range throughout, making their presence fully felt at the breakdown before the driving elemental force of the central groove drops back into place through the seething third movement.

The final musical image of the sonic triptych has a softer musical vibe brought about by a swathe of complementary harmonic phrases. A beautiful central motif marries elegantly with a smooth vocoded vocal that gently sings the “Stuck on a Feeling” title. Rising and falling with ease Stevens evokes a warm summer evening vibe with his beautiful arrangement. Where the opening pair of tracks hypnotized through powerful rhythmic structures, the final track oozes spellbinding warmth with its glittering array of analogue synth phrasing.

Three “Circles” find Jamie Stevens drawing a vivid sonic picture that elegantly shows the logical relation between rhythm, melody and energy in a precise musical Venn diagram.

Jim Rider has grown ever more prominent in recent years. The UK artist is not only a slick DJ and producer but also a promoter, so he understands the dance floor from all different angles. He has previously released on the likes of Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, as well as worked with Kindisch, Akbal Music, and his own imprint, Signs. He has played across the world and topped many digital charts, and now, he ends 2024 with a standout new tune.

His wonderful 'Squaring Circles' pairs fresh house drums with a swirling cosmos of colourful melodies, digital ripples and alluring vocals. They are harmonised with themselves and have a serene vibe as foreground hooks and background loops all intertwine to hypnotic effect.

"I was honoured to be asked to remix this track as big fans of both Camelphat and that proper London sound of Audio Bullys. I’ve seen Audio Bullys play in London a few times!

I loved the vocal the first time round so I wanted to keep it whole and telling it’s full story as opposed to chopping it all up so i just added some FX. I then expanded on the melody of the bassline and added some squelchy/acidy lead synths, some pads and stabs as well as some chunky drums to push it into a more melodic direction."

Far from the template set out by many of Lawler's contemporaries, VIVa quickly established itself as a label where artists could be themselves and write music that isn't defined by just A&R, but by one simple guideline: Quality. Jim Rider has been a key figure in the Electronic Music scene in recent years as a DJ, producer and promoter and is now a truly global artist in his own right. After a short hiatus from the studio, Jim’s artistic drive has continued to thrive in incredible fashion which has seen him release on leading labels including Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream, TRYBESof and Tale & Tone labels, Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Kindisch. This rediscovery also saw the inception of “Signs”, a label founded and curated by Jim to further showcase his own productions and the music of those who share and are aligned with his musical vision reaffirming that Rider has the attention of the dance community’s most influential tastemakers. 

Bursting onto the scene, his 5-track “Popcorn & Politics” EP on TRYBESof was a #1 Beatport category release with follow ups reaching the Organic House top 5 tracks on numerous occasions with records such as his tough yet melodic collab with vocalist Black Soda “Final Straw” plus his standout hit “Two More Days” both on All Day I Dream and the eastern flavoured “In Theory” on Akbal Music. 

2022 was Jim’s true breakout year which saw his debut on All Day I Dream “The Final Straw EP” receive critical acclaim with all four tracks (Final Straw, Los Que Caen, The Cypriot & Rascals) taking over the Beatport charts. His collab EP and a return to Tale & Tone with Eduardo McGregor hit the #4 spot and he made his debut on Nick Warren’s influential label “The Soundgarden. 2023 saw more of the same with further releases on TRYBESof, All Day I Dream and Musique De Lune. Support for his music continues to go from strength to strength with regular support from the world’s biggest DJ’s including Lee Burridge, Nick Warren, Guy Gerber, Hernan Cattaneo, Blond:Ish, Sébastien Léger, Eelke Kleijn, Tim Green, Steve Lawler and many more consistently getting behind Rider’s releases. 

It’s not just in the production space where Rider excels. With dates across Mexico (Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, Juarez, Campeche, Merida and more) where he now calls home for the time being, as well as North American tours taking in the All Day I Dream Festival in California plus numerous club shows in Miami, San Diego, Chicago, New York City, Washington DC, San Francisco, Toronto, Montreal and many more. 2023 also saw Jim’s first Burning Man where (despite the rain) he played at The Playground, Never Sleep Again and Celtic Chaos stages. This year also marked his debut performances in Bali and Australia as well as first visits to Central and South America with shows in Costa Rica, Panama, Argentina and Brazil.

Further afield, he has covered Dubai, the UK, France as well as various shows in Spain and has so far enjoyed two summers as weekly resident for All Day I Dream as they announced full Ibiza seasons every Thursday at the island’s beautiful Cova Santa. 

With an ever impressive list of career achievements to date, Rider has firmly established himself on the electronic music map making him a name to know and watch out for for many many years to come.
