Tastemaking platform Hottrax, run by house music authority Jamie Jones, already boasts a discography including Patrick Topping, East End Dubs and Yousef. The fourth part of their ‘Tripleution’ Various Artist EP series sits in good company, merging new artists and longtime label stalwarts for another stacked tracklist as it gears up for the release of its next edition. 

With cleverly sampled instrumentals and plucked sonic strings, Endor’s ‘Fakez’ kicks off proceedings, having previously guested on highly esteemed imprints such as Solid Grooves, Repopulate Mars, Defected and Toolroom. Self-taught producer Cristian Viviano steps up next with ‘Mastafunka’, with its strumming bass notes and groovy drum programming. The German duo Raumakustik, Sola and Repopulate Mars associate Clyde P and multifaceted musician Jil Tanner join forces on the jagged beat notes of ‘Come With Me’, punching through with pumping breakdowns and a weighty bassline and highlighting Hottrax’s penchant for underground cuts.

Making his debut on Libero, Oxford-based Gibraltarian producer, Jezen. Following on from an impressive stream of releases, ‘The Things You Know’ EP delivers an exceptional combination of original club cuts, both tracks already played by Marco Carola, Loco Dice and more - supplemented by a remix from Leicestershire talents, Murphy’s Law.

‘Like You Should’ takes the shape of a late-night mood setter. A quintessential Music On-esque number - often a treat for the earlier dancefloor descendants - comprising a potent mixture of percussive factors, punchy kicks, and crisp rhythms. Throwing a pinch of the early 2010s deep house flavour in with its bassline and synth melodies; a steady groover that leaves a lasting effect.

‘The Things You Know’ turns the momentum up slightly, adding more roll and shuffle into the mix. Crammed with atmospheric scenes and injections of cadent flair. Continuing the fashion of strong, reminiscent melodic undertones, yet another standout track with indisputable impact.

Completing the triple threat, Murphy’s Law remix of the title track injects yet another layer of energy into the release. A robust adaptation of ‘The Things You Know’ with a constant, blistering low end and raw harmonics offer a gritty alternative to an already definitive piece of music. With hints of UK Tech character dotted throughout, the increasingly-popular duo rounds off the release nicely.

As well as a clear mission to look towards the future of the music industry, this was a step to ensure that music could be released quickly and retain the freshness that the labels A&R was struck by. Far from the template set out by many of Lawler's contemporaries, VIVa quickly established itself as a label where artists could be themselves and write music that isn't defined by just A&R, but by one simple guideline: Quality. This has meant the label has gone on to release music from a wide range artists, from major players like Lawler and Audiofly through to burgeoning talent like Livio & Roby and Nicole Moudaber. In keeping with an ever evolving outlook, 2009 will see VIVa further transformed. Worldwide tour nights, Festival Arena, International Residency's and a new UK based residency at the legendary Ministry of Sound in London are just the tip of the iceberg. Always ones to buck trends, the VIVa family are pressing vinyl again alongside it's digital output as well as expanding its roster of relatively unknown talent rather than rely on the tried and tested.
