Art is so closely linked to music that it's surprising so few artists are musicians and vice versa. In terms of dance music, the most well-known is Trevor Jackson, whose groundbreaking covers for Soulwax sit shoulder to shoulder with his recordings as Playgroup. London's Samuel Muir joins the select group with this stunning collaboration with Kevin McKay. He has designed for A-list musicians (Khruangbin, Gorgon City, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Jessie Ware) and cool-as-you-like brands (Byron, Red Bull, Koya, Ace+Freak). For this release, he's taken inspiration from unashamedly big room club bangers to bring afro-tech flavours to this Seal-sampling slammer. Already tested by Kevin McKay to massive response at London's Roast party, this heady hypnotic journey is the perfect accompaniment to afro cuts by Band&dos, Malone and Nico De Andrea.

When we dropped Kevin's version of "2 On," we received many messages from excited DJs who loved the original. These messages inspired Kevin to return to the studio and deliver a clubbier dub. At the same time, one of our fave deep housers, Ludo Lacoste, loved "2 On" so much that he made a version to see if we'd be interested. Thinking that two heads are usually better than one, we put them together, and here is the result. Classic, skippy deep house drums, a low-slung bassline and a beautiful piano hook, underpin just the choruses from NYLA's stunning vocal performance. If you enjoy a slice of spaced-out 8-bit dubbiness, this is for you.

Continuing a string of releases on the London label in 2024, including his Together series remix of Fish Go Deep’s iconic club anthem ‘The Cure + The Cause’ and infectious original ‘La Trumpeta’, Idris Elba’s house sound is currently dominating the club scene. As more releases are revealed, the DJ and producer aims to bring his global sound to the world stage, now working with vocalist Mayra Andrade. Having recorded music across Portugal, France, and her home of Cape Verde, the internationally acclaimed Mayra Andrade is also a proud LGBTQ+ rights activist, serving as an ambassador for the United Nations ‘Free And Equal’ campaign since 2015. This latest collaboration, ‘Sima Agua’, combines spoken word sections with hard-hitting percussion and Mayra’s evocative topline, creating an international house heater that celebrates the sound of Cape Verde in all its vivid beauty.

Romanian house duo Sllash & Doppe return to Toolroom with a very special record to soundtrack the tail-end of Summer 2024. These guys shot to fame with the massive tribal club anthem ‘Aguella’ back in 2018 that saw the likes of Claptone, HUGEL and Fatboy Slim hammering it in their sets. Fast forward to present day and the lads are back with another future tribal anthem with a very familiar riff; Made famous by the Michael Cleis version, but originally written by Toto La Momposina, this entire composition of flutes, vocals, drums and percussion have all been totally rewritten and recreated in a tiny Colombian village which gives the record a brand new, raw, live element that sounds incredible!

Sllash & Doppe bring this right up to date and it drops just in time for those Ibiza closing parties!
