Born and raised in the vibrant tapestry of Havana, Cuba, Vivian Moinelle is a sonic storyteller transporting global audiences to the Afrofuturist world of her dreams. Electronic music is her medium; her sets are journeys transcending genres and borders, an amalgamation of pre-recorded beats and live productions. Her sound is an intoxicating blend of African rhythms, Afro-Cuban heritage, and the spirited energy of the diaspora, all grounded in the four-on-the-floor patterns of electronic music. 

Her mission is clear: to spread radical joy while carving a place for herself as a celebrated female Afro-Cuban DJ and producer. For Vivian Moinelle, music is unapologetic love. It's the heartbeat of her being, and she's sharing it with the world, one electrifying note at a time.

The evolution of two earlier radio shows, maferefun… is a spiritual celebration connecting Vivian Moinelle’s roots in Cuba to her present life in New York. It pays homage to Africa, its diaspora, and the numerous stories of love, resilience, and spirituality we collectively share. It is also a heartfelt tribute to our ancestors and Orishas (or gods, goddesses, the universe…), expressing gratitude for our blessings and hope for a brighter future for all.

¡maferefun…!

There’s something special about this one. It felt different, as if things were finally starting to make sense for me. New energies manifested, and we went deeper: from simply hosting a celebration (although spiritual) to engaging in a very spiritual session (they’re not the same ;))

maferefun all my ancestors and Orishas for allowing me to see a clearer path for this project! I drew inspiration from those intimate parties/events I love so much, the same spaces I dream about when considering leaving my “bedroom-DJ” stage and starting to play live again…

1. Who or what inspires you to be your biggest, freest, most sensual self? Why?

Janet Jackson and Prince. I have spent hundreds of hours laying on my floor, dancing in my mirror, and feeling myself to their music. This ritual is a huge part of my self care and I know I won't feel the vastness of my sensuality without taking this time to be with myself.

2. What were you channeling in this mix? What do you want to come across to your listeners?
This mix is actually recorded live from Process, in my hometown of Portland OR. This mix was the last mix I played before a major brain injury that has impacted my ability to engage in daily life, DJ, host THROB, and so much more. My memory has been impacted by my injury so I don't fully remember what I was channeling, but what I do know is this mix is very me. My friend calls it powerhouse! I love that so much, and it's been healing to listen to it, with hopes that one day I can get back into djing like this again.
