This playlist contains my heart!: “HTTPS://“ at elrecreo.fm, “WE HERE: AQUÍ” at Oroko Radio, and “MAFEREFUN” at Voices Radio —the three radio shows I manifested during 2024.

It was February, and I started sharing untold stories of love, resilience, and spirituality through the sounds that keep me alive. I aimed to honor the African diaspora across Latin America and the Caribbean —particularly Cuba, my homeland— while fostering connections with other African and Diasporic cultures. I was undeniably on a journey to self-discovery, and radio production was there to help me throughout the process.

“HTTPS://“ was imagined as my “safe space” to be whoever I wanted to be, linking my current life in New York City with all the experiences that came before it… I started it as a "mixtape of sounds and feelings," promising to do things for my audience, and then paused after only two shows because I couldn’t articulate what I wanted to express…

Then, there was “WE HERE: AQUÍ,” a show to connect with people and chat while introducing new sounds and loving [us]. Muchísimas gracias to all the friends who joined me, especially my friend Jovee Jupiter, who interviewed me for the very first episode (!), Vudufa from Perú (episode 03), and Dez Andrés —a Detroit-born legend and proud Afro-Cuban! (episode 04).

“MAFEREFUN” was the third baby —an opportunity to honor the roots and evolution of Afro-Cuban music; a show that brought me tons of happiness and helped me shape my purpose as a sonic storyteller.

Yet, after six months of exploring sounds and feelings and producing, on average, two shows per month, I felt a call to simplify things and pursue just ONE project that made itself very clear during the journey: [insert] “maferefun…” (with ellipses), my current endeavor at Oroko Radio; the evolution of “MAFEREFUN” and “WE HERE: AQUí,” although it also channels some of the ideas behind “HTTPS://” 

Finding this “new maferefun” has been the highlight of my year, and I owe it to these three initial projects. So, I hope this playlist becomes a testament to my choice of chasing the sounds I hear in my dreams and following my heart at each step of this journey... ¡maferefun…!

There’s something special about this one. It felt different, as if things were finally starting to make sense for me. New energies manifested, and we went deeper: from simply hosting a celebration (although spiritual) to engaging in a very spiritual session (they’re not the same ;))

maferefun all my ancestors and Orishas for allowing me to see a clearer path for this project! I drew inspiration from those intimate parties/events I love so much, the same spaces I dream about when considering leaving my “bedroom-DJ” stage and starting to play live again…

1. Who or what inspires you to be your biggest, freest, most sensual self? Why?

Janet Jackson and Prince. I have spent hundreds of hours laying on my floor, dancing in my mirror, and feeling myself to their music. This ritual is a huge part of my self care and I know I won't feel the vastness of my sensuality without taking this time to be with myself.

2. What were you channeling in this mix? What do you want to come across to your listeners?
This mix is actually recorded live from Process, in my hometown of Portland OR. This mix was the last mix I played before a major brain injury that has impacted my ability to engage in daily life, DJ, host THROB, and so much more. My memory has been impacted by my injury so I don't fully remember what I was channeling, but what I do know is this mix is very me. My friend calls it powerhouse! I love that so much, and it's been healing to listen to it, with hopes that one day I can get back into djing like this again.
