Berlin based artist Anthea is a well-known figure head of the world minimal scene. Her longstanding residencies at the likes of Berlin’s Club der Visionaere, Moscow’s Rodnya, as well as featuring at all the major stop off around the globe has propelled the Brit into the collective consciousness of our community. Through her incendiary DJ sets, forward thinking productions and her essential imprint Partisan which is home to upfront releases from Giammarco Orsini, Charonne and LVCA. Anthea is also set to take her label story even further alongside Valesco with the offshoot imprint PILLZ featuring collaborations and close friends with the first release coming later this summer from Francesco Carvetta. Peggy Gou’s Gudu label announces the second edition of its Various Artists compilation series, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2.

First launched last year, Gudu & Friends Vol. 1 featured eight new tracks, from already-established label regulars (DMX Krew, Mogwaa, Hiver, Dukwa, Brian de Palma) and a trio of new faces (Closet Yi, Salamanda, Lady Blacktronika). In keeping with the international outlook and spirit that has always been at the forefront of Gudu, the compilation comprised artists from South Korea, Italy, the UK, USA, Korea and Ukraine.

Released on May 2, digitally and as a limited cassette edition, Gudu & Friends Vol. 2 features a batch of new faces to the label — Alinka, Gina Breeze, Jordan Nocturne (featuring Coco Cole), Minju and Nyra — alongside Hiver, Mogwaa, Dukwa and Matisa.

Each Gudu & Friends compilation will have artwork tied into the lunar new year. For Gudu & Friends Vol. 2, the art comes from illustrator Jin Young Choi (who also illustrates the Gudu Mix series) and reflects the year of the dragon.

DJ Hellie has been an integral part of the Amsterdam DJ scene for over ten years, working front and back office with passion and ferocity. She prefers vinyl, and her sets build a brilliant bridge between old and new music. 

Hellie’s feminist activism brought her to co-host a radio show called ‘Women’ with Naima Bouchtaoui. She also co-founded an all-femme booking agency, Pique. The femme-led parties Hellie started in Amsterdam pre-corona, were aptly named Voortouw (a Dutch word that signals the concept of taking the lead). Voortouw has now morphed into a monthly radio show on Echobox. In the show, Hellie shares new music made mostly by women and occasionally features guests or even live performances by other femme artists. 

With this 1,5 hour mix she showcases her diverse taste and style. It’s light footed, heavily danceable and unapologetically taking the lead to a grand finale!
