DRR Podcast 077 - Other Form

Arriving five years to the day since the release of his debut 12”, Other Form revisits that EP’s standout track Oktober and enlists the help of collaborators new and old for over 50 minutes of fresh interpretations — each an essential cut in its own right.

Other Form’s titular revisit of Oktober subtly improves the track with a punchier mixdown and a more ’floor-ready tempo — an exercise in refinement from a producer who’s spent five years evolving a sound that’s earned praise from the likes of Paula Temple, Amotik, and Charlotte de Witte.

Now, the remixes begin: first, with a tom-heavy collaboration between Audio Units (Dynamic Reflection, Newrhythmic) and Dotdat (Symbolism, Room Trax), label heads of Observant and figureheads of Bangalore’s techno scene, before giving way to the first ever remix from Lille-born, Berlin-based Justine Perry (Postdynamic, Intra). Next, we have a deep and dubbed-out version from Sardinia-born, Berlin-based Nothing is Real (Bahn, Methodical), followed by a heavily swung offering from Paris’ dc11 (Data Roaming, Cosmic Wave). Then comes a UK bass vibe courtesy of London’s Alternate Current (re:st, Diffuse Reality), whose remix sits perfectly alongside his recent explorations with Other Form. Granada’s Vlaeminck (Rhod, Soptik) takes the track into post-apocalyptic territory before Porto’s A Thousand Details (Edit Select, MORD) closes the release with not one but two brutal reinterpretations.

This producer and sound engineer at the same time has been on the scene since the beginning of the year 2000, where he combines the management of his labels, the production and mastering of works by international artists and labels.

Artists and labels such as: Ben Sims, Stanislav Tolkachev, Dasha Rush, Speedy J, Jeroen Search, Dimi Angélis, Steve Stoll, Carl Craig, Luciano, Idriss D, Shlomi Aber, Francesco Farfa, Mirko Loko, Eduardo De La Calle, Horacio Cruz , Gel Abril, Luciano Esse, Ricardo Garduno, Guido Schneider, Orbe, HD Substance, Surgeles, Funk D´Void, Cadenza, Planet-E, Internacional Deejay Gigolo, Turbo Canada, Ovum, This And That Lab, Be As One, Sungate , Rudiment… among many others have entrusted their productions to their mastering studio.

In the field of production he combines his techno facet as “KOTEC” with his more personal and experimental facet as “K7hz”.

Strongly influenced by the Central European trend of minimalist, dark and experimental techno, they make his sessions a dialogue with the dance floor focused on movement with mental overtones.

Vlaeminck is defined by a dark experimental look where his stylistic freedom releases the ordinary to weave a personal and defined electronic style. He is a music producer and thorough creator of gloomy nuances. He innovates with techno music and experimental  patterns that empathise with the most demanding ear for electronic sounds. 
He is an artist of forceful rhythms that can be sensed in every Live. By means of analogical instruments, he wraps his sessions in dark harmonies and contrasts with unique, seductive, and functional effects for the untiring dance floor.
Along his musical career, he has edited on labels such as Rhod Records, Shēdo Lab, Analog Solutions, Diffuse Reality with which he made his first full-length album, Unknown Movements, Soptik, HG2, Shift Functions. In the latter, he has collaborated  with Eduardo de la Calle in the production of the latest limited edition of his vinyl.

Javier Serrano, better known as KOTEC, is the guest for this new episode of Mix Series.
Born and based in Priego de Córdoba, this experienced DJ, producer and sound engineer has been contributing a lot to the Techno scene for many years with a high level in all its disciplines.
But above all, breaking cliches and not following trends or fads. Co-founder of Rhod Records, together with Loss Of Balance, with more than 50 references on the market since its birth in 2017, several of which are on vinyl and cd.

HG-2 is his most introspective and personal project, a label more focused on the more experimental and minimalist side of Techno and avant-garde Electronic music, even bordering on IDM or Noise on occasions.

Also performing in parallel work as a sound engineer in his own company, KTC Mastering.
With a great resume behind him, just to mention some artists and labels such as; Steve Stoll, Carl Craig, Gerald Donald, International Deejay Gigolo, Dasha Rush, Speedy J, Stanislav Tolkachev, Samuli Kemppi, Eduardo de la Calle, Orbe, Non Series... etc

KOTEC gives us a Mix Series where his experience behind the decks is connoted, and how he translates for us without words a speech executed to perfection with the styles for which he is always recognized as an artist, minimalism, persuasion, experimentation, syncopated rhythms, but especially avant-garde and personality.
