VM Open '25 (26-07-2025)

Our ADE debut at Generator marked an important milestone. Together with https://soundcloud.com/synesthesiamusicart, we delivered a two-room club experience that showcased the depth of our curation and the strength of our community. The Auditorium transformed into a focused, high-energy main floor, while the Oosterbar offered a darker, groove-driven counterpart showcased by our residents. VM x SYNESTHESIA - ADE '25

It's time for another Special! This time DJ Mollie had the honour to curate it. He chose to dig into some of the best records of one of his favourite labels; PIV Records. Founded in 2015 by Dutch DJ / Producer Prunk, the label has put its stamp on the Dutch music scene. With their unique combination of classic New York and Chicago House fused with new elements, it's nearly impossible to keep your feet still. 

We sat down with DJ Mollie and asked him what PIV Records means to him.

1. Why did you choose this theme? 
The Amsterdam-based label and their tracks gave me a lot of strength, energy and joy during the last year and lockdown. The mixture of Chicago house and the instrumental melodics makes my feet move with every beat.

Their sound and tracks gave me so much energy last year and are one of the main reasons I survived the first lockdown with a smile on my face.

2. What does PIV Records mean to you? 
PIV and their sounds taste like a cold white beer on a summer evening around the campfire at the beach.

3. At which moment did you start getting into PIV Records? 
I really fancy and like the sound of the magicians of Apollonia. Two years ago they were booked at Overwinteren Festival at the PIV stage. I can’t remember that I left the PIV stage that day because I was blown away by the sound and the artists that played. For me, that was the moment I really fell in love with the label.

VM Radio Special - Synergy

Unfortunately DGTL Amsterdam won't be happening again this year. Difficult to understand, and yet another slap in the face for the entire cultural industry. To ease the pain a little, we bring you a special mix consisting entirely of tracks by artists who would have been performing at this year's edition, including Acid Pauli, Adriatique, Âme, Axel Boman, Ben Böhmer, Colyn, Hot Since 82, Jan Blomqvist, Kink, MEUTE, Mind Against, Nicky Elisabeth, Nicola Cruz, Patrice Bäumel, Perdu, Recondite, The Blessed Madonna and Worakls. Despite the enormous success of the Unmute Us protest on August 21st with more than 70.000 demonstrators, the industry is still not being heard. By continuing to fight for reopening the industry there will be another protest march on September 11th.

VM Radio Special - DGTL Amsterdam 2021 Substitute Mix

Today we bring you another VM Radio Special; in Voz de las Montañas (voice of the mountains), named after the eponymous track by Nicola Cruz, Sjemmon brings you nearly two hours of awakening and compelling sounds from different parts of the world. Simply close your eyes as you're getting into the meditative state once you start to listen. Don't try to identify the sounds you are hearing. Don't put names on them. Simply allow them to play with your eardrums. And soon you will find, that the so-called outside world, and the so-called inside world come together.

We had a chat with Sjemmon and asked him about the story behind this theme:

I chose this theme because there was an extensive list of cool downtempo tracks that I couldn't fit in the regular VM Radio shows. I usually play housy and funky tracks while the downtempo tracks are about creating atmosphere. One track may make you feel like standing in a rainforest whereas another one puts you into the middle of the desert. 

With this type of music in the background, I slowly dream away to distant places. It also gives routine tasks a bit of flavor.

I remember the moment I heard a set of Nicola Cruz for the first time. I was recovering on a terrace from a tough mountain bike ride in the mountains of Patagonia, Argentina. First I didn't even notice that I was listening to an actual mix. However, after 20 minutes I couldn't leave the terrace anymore as Nicola Cruz got me into his mesmerizing and dreamy vibe.

My personal favorite track from Nicola Cruz is El Búho - Aguas Claras (Nicola Cruz Remix). The track combines the characteristic flute of Nicola with a mysterious melody that takes me away instantly.

VM Radio Special - Voz de las Montañas

It's time to get Brazilian with this month's special mix by BRINKIE. With this musical homage to the 'Land of the Holy Cross', he brings light to the country's huge influence in music in the past and at present. With styles as Samba, Bossa Nova, Funk and Gospel amongst others, Brazilian music culture is one of the richest in the world. VM Radio Show #91 - Nina de Ruiter

The third dish of our sundry menu during our Club Atelier takeover was being served by BRINKIE and Gavino Paglianti. Playing back-to-back, they weaved a tapestry of sound that showcases their diverse, yet delicate, musical tastes. They treated the crowd with an eclectic mix of Indie Dance, Melodic House, and everything in between. Braketrack and Charles Mingles were invited to play at one of Amersfoort’s most delightful venues, Zandfoort aan de Eem, to play a 1-hour set for their hometown’s party-promoter Vive La Danse. In tune with the Mexican theme of the night, they laid down a set featuring Latin, House and Salsa rhythms to immerse yourself in Latin America for a while. By recording their set, they are now able to bring the fiesta to your living room. ¡Disfrute!

The last track of the fourth DJ came to its end and then there was a deafening silence. A figure with a wizard-like appearance started playing a mysterious sound. This was the start of the fifth set of the evening, the set of our Charles Mingles. Armed with abstruse melodies and mesmerizing vocals, Charles took the crowd away and blurred the line between reality and fantasy. The dance floor was ready, and Gavino Paglianti delivered a set that kept the Oosterbar moving from start to finish. A mix of melodic house, hypnotic grooves, and unexpected turns carried the energy through every track. Tracks of Tim Engelhardt, Luke Alessi, Skatman and Moontalk provided moments of pure delight that stuck with everyone in the room. Each beat built on the last, blending warmth and drive with melodic peaks that made the night unforgettable.
