Unsere Nr. 234 kommt heute von einem DJ, welcher sich durch seinen unglaublich mannigfaltigen Soundspektrum auszeichnet. Jedes seiner Sets sind vielseitig, überraschend und teils sehr deep. Sein Sound hatte mich bereits beim ersten Hören absolut in den Bann gezogen, da sie sich einfach nicht in eine bestimmte Schublade packen lies. Ein Merkmal, dass mich aufs Neue immer wieder erstaunt, verwirrt, fesselt und dann schlussendlich verblüfft. Kein Wunder dass er auch Teil des aufstrebenden Podcastsprojekts [kɔlatəˈʁaːl] (https://soundcloud.com/kol-la-te-ral) ist. Eine Spielwiese für Freunde wechselnder, thematischer Podcasts, die stets Genrefrei und konsistent einmalig sind. Ein Besuch lohnt sich definitiv immer.

Die Rede ist von DJ Rotte, einem Genre-Wanderer mit dem Hang zum besonderen. Musik aus der Klischeedose gibt es bei ihm definitiv nicht. Genre, ja das Wort kennt er, aber daran halten möchte und kann er sich nicht. Wie auch, schließlich beeindrucken eine Sets durch ein hohes Maß an Verspieltheit und glänzen mit einer deepen Atmosphäre zwischen Tanz und Wahnsinn. Kollateralschäden inbegriffen. Das von ihm eingespielte Set ist definitiv eine herrlich ‚afterhoureske‘ Reise ins Dickicht der slowen, groovigen, dunklen Soundmaterie. In Kombination mit verspielter und teils auch schrägen elektronischen Musik schafft er einen besonderen Moment nach dem Anderen. Ob Ketapop, Deep House, Rap, Techno oder Krautrock, alles ist erlaubt. Angereichert mit einer Menge an schrägen Vocalpassagen, versetzt er den Hörer schlussendlich immer wieder in Hypnose, Wahnsinn und Träumereien. 

Ich war beim ersten Hören des Sets tatsächlich komplett geflasht, obwohl ich seinen Sound kenne. Dennoch überraschte es mich. Das ist immer das Tolle an seiner Musik. Man hat zunächst eine Ahnung, dann gerät man ins Zweifeln ob man sich doch tatsächlich geirrt hat und am Ende sitzt man verblüfft im Sessel mit seinen Kopfhörern auch den Ohren. Immer wieder genial, wenn die Künstler mit so viel Liebe zum Detail an die Sache rangehen und etwas vollkommen Einzigartiges erschaffen. Nämlich ihrem bzw. seinem Afterhour Sound. Dass das heute leider keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr ist, muss an dieser Stelle nicht gesagt werden.
Umso mehr freut es mich / uns, dass wir DJ ROTTE mit einem Set gewinnen konnten. 

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise durch verspielte, deepe und hypnothische Felder, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour sind….seid gespannt.

Warme Sonnenstrahlen kitzeln dezent meine Nasenspitze. Der Himmel ist azurblau und beinahe wolkenleer. Eine kühle Brise streichelt mir über den Arm. Dieser Tag ist einfach wunderbar und  erquickend warm. 
Leuchtende Grüntöne strahlen mir entgegen. Vögel und Insekten sind es, die sich mühelos in luftige Höhen begeben. Der Winterschlaf ist nun worüber, es ist Zeit die Welt neu zu entdecken. Lachend lege ich mich ins Gras und auf die ausgebreiteten Kuscheldecken. Heute kann mich nichts und niemand aus der Ruhe bringen, einfach die Seele baumeln lassen und mit der Natur ein Liedchen singen. 

Dieser KataHaifisch Podcast stammt aus der Feder von Deaf can Dance. Bei ihm handelt es sich um einen Künstler mit polnischen Wurzeln. Seit 2005 legt Deaf can Dance als DJ auf und hat sich über die Jahre zu einer wahrlich in die Herzen der Menschen gespielt. Sein musikalische Leidenschaft gilt dem Downtempo. Dies Vorliebe spiegelt sich auch in seinem neuen Set wieder. Die Songs laden zum verweilen und treiben lassen ein. Die hypnotisierende Stimmung zieht seine Hörer unweigerlich in einen tranceartigen Bann. Ist es noch Musik oder schon Magie?

It was almost mid-November and the forest had become very quiet.  Migrant birds had flown away to the south and the bats and hedgehogs had already started their hibernation, despite the unusually mild temperatures this autumn.  Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) was walking alone in the forest.  Hekske (the little witch) had gone to a witch coven near the Black Sea and Lalita (the tree nymph) was in a deep meditative communication session with the little oak tree.  As trees have a very slow way of communicating these sessions can take days.  All of a sudden, Falke felt very lonely.  She started to think back about her life when she was still a human being, which stopped abruptly 1,5 years ago when she lost both her drug-addicted parents.  That fateful day, she followed her deeper instincts, ran into the forest where she got a warm welcome by Hekske, the little witch.  After that, Falke blossomed open and had a very happy time in the witch’s forest, learning fast about secret recipes and spells, while never complaining about the rain or the winter cold.  Yet, on this sunny but windy November day, she suddenly missed her parents and quietly wept in a remote corner of the forest, her tears rolling down her cheeks.
Then she got spotted by Bob The Owl, her trusted friend.  Bob landed on her shoulder.  At first he did nothing, but after a while he started to play gently with Falke’s long blond hair and nibbled softly on her right earlobe. Falke started to notice her sweet friend.  She took him on her hand and gave him a little kiss.  After that she caressed his soft down feathers and massaged his neck (which he really loves).  Then she took Bob in the palm of her hand and gently massaged his belly, while the little owl closed his eyes from pure joy.  Falke smiled and gave him another tender kiss at the end of the massage session.  Then she walked back to the glade with Bob on her shoulder.  On the way she chatted and played with a couple of jays and a family of squirrels.  Slowly, Falke became as ebullient and playful as ever.
Shortly after arriving in the glade, she heard a familiar yell from above.  Falke’s heart skipped a beat when she saw Hekske flying in the air.  The little witch gently touched down on the soft moss and gave a long welcome hug to Falke.  Hekske was covered with dust and her hair was a real mess after the long flight back from the Crimea.  She urgently needed a bath, and both girls quickly went to the nymph’s pond where they slipped out of their long white dresses and waded into the refreshing water.  Falke was in a really frisky mood and the witches had lots of fun splashing water at each other, giggling non-stop.  Soon a family of beavers joined the fun, while Bob The Owl watched the endearing spectacle from a twig of a nearby tree, smiling and having a tear in his eyes at the same time…

(Story continued from Witchtape #61)
After a non-stop flight of 2 days and 1 night, the little witch was enjoying a very welcome shower under the waterfall at the foot of the mountain.  She started to shiver from the ice-cold melting water from the glaciers of Mount Hermon, while at the same time feeling purified by the crystal clear water which was slowly on its way southwards to the lowest place on planet earth… the Dead Sea.  A few minutes later, the little witch of the North was joined by a young teenage witch from the desert in the East and a 6000-year old witch from the Mediterranean shore on the West.  Soon they let themselves float in the river while holding each other in a tender embrace with their legs intertwining.  Despite the freezing cold water, the little witch soon warmed up by the close contact with the two other women.  Her body even started to glow as she felt the youthful energy of the desert witch enter through her skin, where it merged with the immense wisdom of the elder witch.  They floated gently on the water for a few minutes, before sinking deeper and deeper (of course witches can breathe under water).  The water became darker, and after a while the three witches got sucked into a cave, where the water was really murky.  Despite these inhospitable surroundings, the girl felt safe in the company of her two sisters witch, while they got swept away by the strong currents through the dark cave.  The little witch lost all notion of space and time in this dark abyss, only making sure not to lose her grip on her two companions.  Until finally, after what felt like an eternity, the current seemed to slow down while the water looked less murky.  A little later the water became even very clear, with a pleasant aquamarine color.  Gradually, underwater life came back and soon the 3 witches were in the middle of colorful little fish and lush green water plants.  The 3 women relaxed and loosened their grip on each other and started a spontaneous underwater ballet in the middle of this mesmerizing silent world.  It was so pleasant at the bottom of the lake, that the 3 witches were not the least bit in a hurry to get to the surface, which only happened quite a while later.  After resurfacing, the European girl was surprised to find herself in the middle of a vast lake, surrounded by majestic mountains.  The little witch looked to the North and recognized Mount Hermon far away in the distance, and she realized they must have travelled a vast distance through that endless dark cave.  The 3 witches swam to the shore where – to their great surprise – they found back their clothes which they had left behind at the foot of Mount Hermon.  Not that they were in a hurry to put their white dresses back on … they preferred to lie down in the grass and savor the wholesome energy of this holy lake, while their hair was drying in the soft sunlight (it was close to sunset).  The 3 women snuggled together while the little witch was wondering what would come next…

As summer is slowly starting up we’re happy to provide you with a foretaste of a sensationally cool summer drink: Oceanvs Orientalis’ Summer Reign is perfectly crafted with only the freshest summer jams.  

Founded by Safak Oz Kutle, Oceanvs Orientalis is a formation which aims to challenge the aesthetic perception in electronic music.

A few years back, the Turkey born producer was not even in electronic music. Working as a graphic designer in Istanbul, he was using his housemate’s copy of Ableton to make symphonic tracks influenced by his love of world and classical music. The turning point came when he put a kick-drum beneath his productions. Since 2011 he performs as DJ and live act. 

And he recently founded his own label, Kanto Records, which he describes as an art collective without restrictions of a run-of-the-mill label companies.

Oceanvs Orientalis, tunes are not in a hurry. So aren’t we on a hot summer day. And so aren’t we sipping on this delicious Summer Reign! Bartender, we’re having another round!

Passionate about music since his young age, Houssem Ben Romdhane or Vodoom took his first step in this world playing the lute and received the diploma of Arab music ...
