TRM: Prologue (Mở màn)

We compose a score for a movie "Pao’s Forest". In this film score, Phuc and I used several non-pitch metallic percussions which are based on a sound sculpture of Marilyn Donadt and bell plates to create all the sounds which you will hear while watching. The reason is that we live in a world which does not value individual voices. Therefore, these metal instruments could produce distorted sounds, allowing us to express the human soul.

When I initially started learning "minimalism", I wrote this piece of music. The right hand plays the melody written in this style, while the left hand hits notes at random. The combination of "symmetrical" and "asymmetrical" is created from there.

The Naughty Child and the Normal Old Man - vohahanhnhan

With a sense of emptiness, I composed this song in the hospital room. I use the piano to portray my personal fear, the clarinet for expressing my inner kid, and the cello to depict joy. As I age, my inner kid seems to become more fragmented and distorted, causing me to feel less joy and a growing feeling of anxiety.

What would it feel like experiencing your own funeral? Everything will be weird and abnormal, I'm sure. In this work, I composed music and lyrics based on the poem "I felt a Funeral in my Brain" by Emily Dickinson, my favourite poet. The music was fragmented at first, reflecting your wrecked soul, before becoming frantic and chaotic as you realised you were dying. Finally, since you realised the truth, it was the concept of reconciliation and peace.

I composed this little fun piece only to keep myself working with music everyday. Using a short random ASMR clip by a woman on YouTube combined with built-in functions of Ableton Live and a midi controller, I played and recorded this piece myself following an open score. Headphones are recommended and the volume should be kept at medium since the last minutes are very loud.

This piece emphasizes breath and uncertainty. Melodic fragments inside boxes
indicate important motifs that can be repeated 2–3 times. With each repetition, vary the rhythm, articulation, and dynamics. 
Avoid placing everything on strong beats to create a wandering effect. Between  boxed motifs, take slight pauses to al low space for breath. Notes with a diamond shape indicate prepared notes. 
The piece will be performed with fixed media, incorporating recorded breathing
sounds.

I’ve always been drawn to sound — its endlessness, its quiet way of saving me. 
The younger me still claws through every note, asking to be heard. Now, after thirteen years, I make music to remember, to forgive, and to begin again.
