As proud Bari native, Dona Basile has made a home off the beaten path: this might be one key ingredient in his secret mix. Here he ran vinyl destination EXP Records until early last year, providing a stream of exposure to new music that has surely had a hand in his unusual aesthetic. He’s hard to pin down (though KAOS, Ilian Tape and Mannequin have tried), delegating passions across his Dona and DJ Plant Texture aliases. His floral pseudonym ostensibly reserved for everything sample-based, breakbeat and techno. That’s only half true though, his aural experiments are much more nuanced: infused with flavours as varied as techno and jungle, as well as jazz, funk and house, not to mention the hardware tricks he plays to further push his sound. This podcast lays his idiosyncrasies bare, swaying melodies and psychedelic synths escalating into rattling rhythms and frantic and strident big room loops. Bassiani Podcast 174 is a leftfield studio mix from this obscure Italian mastermind.

Command Control is an emerging London-based producer and DJ who released his first EP “Essence” earlier this year. The EP fuses his penchants for Detroit, Dub and UK Techno, with elements from all styles peppered across the release. The EP has been well received with a 10/10 rating awarded in FAZE magazine and early support from DJs Tasha, Blasha & Allatt, The Advent, Dave Clarke, Imogen and more. 

Just in time for club season, his mix for FrixXxion is a mashup of moody, groovy and sultry hip shakers to set the mood for darker nights ahead.

FrixXxion 008: Command Control

Stepping in our podcast series this week, London DJ and Neighbourhood chief operator Tasha graces us with a versatile, shape-shifting helluva mix she holds the secret to. Keeper of a sound amplitude that sees her run the gamut from Latin music-inflected techno to proper industrial, Birmingham-style tempi, through hardcore-friendly outbursts and out-there acid mind trips, Tasha has us bedazzled with every bar, wrong-footing any expectation in the process. And just like a good DJ does, she weaves a totally unique web of sound for us to get caught in, cohesively braiding the kind of electronic journey you can not but want to return to. The rubber hits the road for a studio mix like no other and British selector IMOGEN’s in the driving seat. Her roots in Southampton and later London are the funnel through which her urban-inflected frequencies travel, an articulation of years spent listening to The Prodigy, Ellen Allien and Umwelt, dark-electro with allusions to UK bass. At a mere 16 years old, she moved to the Big Smoke to study Music Tech, became a regular on Radar Radio and was playing in the booth at Berghain a short two years later, with a Fabric residency quickly in tow. 2022 saw her debut EP out on Voitax, an enthusiastically received five track gem that wore her love of breaks and monolith techno confidently. She’s now both Tresor and NTS Radio resident and founder of Wigs, an online hub through which she helps peers connect turned event series and music label. There’s too much to cover before catching your breath really, but it’s openness to experience and energy, not age, that pay the highest dividends. Thoroughly steeped in these internet times, IMOGEN has found a voice that breaks through the wall of endless and indistinguishable sounds and delivers on a pledge to get crowds moving. Bassiani Podcast does that, rattling beats that shapeshift to the breaks weighted sounds synonymous with a UK upbringing, this is a call back to corporeal experience. A 90-minute direct line to the essence of techno from one of the UK’s most promising names.

o•rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

"After some excellent contributions to the o•rbyss series by friends of mine, I was invited to record a mix. Ambient and downtempo have long been part of my listening habits — often as tools for focus, unwinding, or finding comfort. I hadn’t listened to these styles much recently, but after a particularly reflective year, this mix felt like the perfect chance to reconnect and create some catharsis for myself. It’s a personal one, moving through moody and introspective moments before ending on a hopeful and uplifting note. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to share it - I hope it brings warmth and joy for anyone who listens, just as it has for me."

These originals where reimagined through the unique lenses of three talented members of the family. Local Analyst’s Nomadic Void injects an experimental edge his sound is always pushing boundaries and creating sonic textures and landscapes. Also on Nomadic Void mchvlsm provides a fresh perspective, reworking the tracks with their signature rhythmic approach. Abstract Human take on Jejum offers an intricate approach, adding layers of complexity to the original compositions. 

This EP is a must-have of club oriented techno with innovative sounds thanks to its meticulous production. Prepare to be captivated!
