Whassup gang?

I'm really happy to release the 5th episode of the Prescription Mixes which is probably my fav with this series. 

During the last few months, whether it's for a gig or for a mixtape, I used to spend way too much time (way way too much) on Rekordbox to put some tracks together and prepare the sets I was about to play. Finding an intro track, then the next one etc., deleting everything and starting from scratch again the day after, paying too much attention on the "harmonic mixing" -which is pretty cool but should definitely not prevent you from playing the tracks you want-... Long story short: I felt lost & imprisoned with technology because preparing a set has never been my workflow. 

I've been deeply introspecting about what my musical identity should be or become considering my schrizophrenic tastes, I also struggled to find inspiration and energy to mix alone facing a wall. Until now, releasing a monthly mix has paradoxically been a healer but also created too much overthinking. 

Let's say I've got back to my roots with this one! If previous Prescription Mixes did not reflect my real party vibe, this 5th episode has been recorded spontaneously, like a sudden urge to piss as we say in French, and it's way closer to what I would play in a club. 

You can expect a solid house vibe here, still mixed with sounds from the most advanced laboratories: infectious pulses, therapeutic basses, analgesic synths and revitalizing vocals that act as medicine for the heart.

PRESCRIPTION MIX #5 [house it up]

2016: the first time we talked Crazy P into coming to one of our parties...

The sudden and shocking news that Danielle Moore from Crazy P has died has set many, many people reeling and hearts breaking, ours included. There are some beautiful words online from many who crossed paths with her far more often and knew her much better than we did. They go some small way towards summing up what she meant to anyone she had contact with. A remarkable spirit, talented and hardworking for sure, but far more important than all of that - the thing that you will hear over and over and over - is that she was just a really fucking lovely, positive, genuine human being.

She always supported what we did and we will be eternally grateful for that, for all the music and for her joy and energy. As you will hear in this set, the fact that our total concession to us having a live act was throwing a stage block in front of the booth did not faze her at all. By the end of the set she was sharing it with a number of very enthusiastic individuals and... well, you just need to listen.

The thoughts of all of the What the...? collective are with her family, her friends and those who worked with her - the hole left in their lives must be truly vast. We're sending all our love to them x

Danielle Moore 1971-2024

Like a lot of you, I was devastated to hear of Danielle Moore's passing earlier this month. 

Crazy P meant and mean a lot to me and are one of the 3 pillars that make up my DJing and music life. Danielle was an amazing talent, a soulful wonder and mischievous. 

I can't process my grief sitting here, so I made a 90 minute megamix, of Crazy P through my journey with them, using as many of her vocals-led tunes as I could (with some sampled mistaken vocals), in chronological order from 2002-2022, pretty much my favourites from classics to deep cuts. In a poignant twist, my last radio show, one day after her passing, ended with their latest tune 'Any Signs of Love', a much more sad and surreal placement of that tune.

London, sometime in the early 2000s - it’s the last Reclaim the Beach party of the year.  Thousands of people are dancing round bonfires on a beach under Waterloo Bridge and the tide is coming in.  Fireworks arc over the Thames as the DJ cues the final tune that, one he made earlier that day.  The fader comes up as the rain begins to fall. 

Void Complet is the production project from London based DJ, architect & animator Chog Burley.  It channels his techno roots through the filter of house music with  references to the breakbeat culture that is unmistakably London.  Machine music made for letting go as the rain falls on the most unlikely of beaches.
