We’re thrilled to welcome Chicago’s Rez Dosia to Obscura for his first feature length project - The Abstrakt Lover EP. With a feature selection on the recent Jimi Jules Essential Mix, Rez is on the rise as the summer season kicks into gear.

The project’s namesake and A-side Abstrakt Lover brings crisp acidic tones and tripped out vocal chops, creating bespoke dancefloor moments. Lights Out & Apache Plume bring a low-slung minimal vibe, keeping the groove tight while allowing punchy drum programming to catch the ear. Atacama welcomes floating melodies to lighten the mood, before Black Reflections sends us back into the deep with an ominous analog arrangement brimming with late night flavor. "Darin Epsilon needs no introduction to the underground dance music faithful. An artist at the peak of his powers, his cross-genre appeal has seen him at the vanguard of Progressive House and Melodic Techno with over 350 production credits and two million Soundcloud plays to his name. An array of leading imprints play host to the US producer's work that include Katermukke, Einmusika, Sudbeat, and Renaissance, amongst many others.

Returning to the label with a double track EP, "Jormungandr" is a glorious offering that revels in serpentine arpeggios that coruscate in melodic patterns across the near 8 minute track. A clever sonic representation of its Norse title, the track builds in swirling effervescent patterns that reach their zenith in the second half, held in place by a sonic glue of deep kick and offbeat percussive framework.

"Golden Triangle" immediately excites with its intricate percussive groove and ticking hi-hats that hint at the far-off lands of India and southeast Asia. Following the narrative of its predecessor, a white-noise infused arpeggio forms a strong foundation before a rich counterpoint motif ripples into sonic view with its Moog-inspired character. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist with a music career dating back to the mid 90's, a number 1 US Billboard hit remixing the Nightcrawlers and reworks of Paul Van Dyk, Faithless, and Way Out West, has seen Jerome continually hit the summit of a notoriously fickle industry. Nominated by Beatport as a best-selling artist on multiple occasions, his unique blend of Techno and Progressive House has witnessed almost 1,000 production credits and a string of chart-topping hits.

2015 saw a shift in the German producer's music as a deeper, darker, and more nuanced sound went hand-in-hand with a new collaborative partnership with US producer, Alastor. Last November when hot sweaty clubs were a thing, I played along side @BookaShade at London's E1. Their album Movements, released on Get Physical back in 2006 was/still is genius and something I return to regularly for inspiration, so to share a night with them was special.

We had an amusing pre gig dinner - It was great to have a moment to actually sit down, talk and get to know the guys a little. A few weeks later Arno kindly asked if I’d be interested in remixing ‘Polar Lights’ from their new album. I’ve discussed my approach to remixing before, one of the main points being I don’t jump on them lightly however, their track was ripe for reworking - first off it wasn’t already a dance track with a 4/4 groove - it was more of a down tempo vibe and most important, due to the great performance of @joplynberlin I could hear the vocal working a treat.

2019 was winding down and we were approaching our first Christmas with Huxley so decided to wait till the new year to start work on the mix so i could give it my full attention, so ended up starting in early February after arriving in Ibiza… then old Covid-19 decided to rocked up! What then unfolded was a month tucked up away at the top of the valley, diving in and out of the project, experimenting with the original parts of the song i'd been given, searching for the little moments that would then become the final piece. There were a couple times when I needed a proper environment to get to grips with the sonics of the mix. This meant a few covert missions to a studio near by - if caught by the Ibizan police it wouldn’t have gone down well... anyhow… we got there in the end and really happy that its out now in the ether.
