The lyrics deal with the fact that many of us keep to our own small bubbles. We're afraid to open our eyes and see other people's problems.

Still, we're never satisfied with who we are, and we want to change both ourselves and other people's perception of us. We keep trying to find another, better world.

Musically, a regular song structure soon gives way to a simple guitar theme that builds to a huge sound wall - the discovery of that elusive other world. Or realizing that it doesn't exist?

"'Pop Song' was written as a comment on the expectation of 'autobiographical' songwriters to be authentic, and the resultant fact that if you open and up and are vulnerable with your songs and lyrics, that information can be taken and mutated and twisted by people, sometimes people who want to do you harm. However, in the end, as an artist, I'm always hoping that people accept my broken shit and that it resonates and makes people feel closer to the vulnerable parts of themselves. 

By exposing the darker parts of my self, I'm hoping to create empathy."

'One of Us' was written as a direct response to what I see happening in the UK – a country ravaged by poverty and a disintegrating social fabric of increasingly isolated and intoxicated people. A neglected group spun in circles by an uncaring billionaire-owned media, (mis)led into pointing the finger at one another as opposed to those truly responsible for this situation. A depressing but common problem in 2019…sound familiar?
