VOLTAGE Radio DJ SETS

In the realm of musical expression, there are instances when compositions resonate with the interceptors of the listener. Such is the case with the music of Aerodrömme, whose auditory offerings initially captivated discerning ears upon submission as a demo to VOLTAGE.
Originating from the scenic landscapes of Canada, Boris Kurtzman and Steve Chan established their collaborative endeavor in the year 2008, setting forth on a creative journey aimed at probing the frontiers of progressive techno—a thriving genre at the time.
In time, the duo found themselves drawn to the darker and more introspective soundscape of Hypnotic Techno, a thematic trajectory they pursued thereafter. This artistic evolution ultimately led them to the attention of VOLTAGE, culminating in the forthcoming release of VLT054 on May 10th. Entitled "Abyss" EP, this record comprises three brilliantly crafted tracks, each designed to ignite a spectrum of emotional responses to their listeners.
Off-beats combine with standard Techno patterns, long drones and effects unite to manifest a unique sonic character that exudes authenticity and originality, taking the listener to a unique journey.
As Aerodrömme prepares to integrate into the VOLTAGE collective, we extend our anticipation for the musical journey that lies ahead and we welcome them to the family.

AERODRÖMME - ABYSS EP

The collaboration of ANNA V. and Whodoes is equivalent with the collaboration of a Sith Lord and a Jedi Master. 
Two completely different producers unite to create an unparalleled EP comprising of two relevant but at the same time different tracks, underlined by a dark and moody overture, the third track. 

In this record you will hear quite a lot of synthwork from both producers. Vintage FM synths were used in Subphenomenon and digitals synths from the 90's were used in Parascience.

About Sisko Electrofanatik:
isko Electrofanatik was born in Rome. Sin- ce he was very young, he has been attracted to dance music, and with time he developed a
strong interest in the various facets of house and electronic music. He then started working in mul- tiple clubs in the Italian capital from a young age.
His DJing style was always heavily steeped in electronic sounds, which is why he ended up being nicknamed “Electrofanatik”. After a few years of gigs, he started feeling the need to create a more personal sound, so he began working on his own productions, expressing his creativity through the current underground style of electronic and tech- no music. CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF VOLTAGE RECORDS

For our birthday, we chose the Italian born and raised Sisko Electrofanatik & Klaark and their 'Hyperion' single. This is a dark and melodic track produced with a festival scent on it. Built around a gigantic acid bassline and a distinctive percussive signature, it is an original worth trying in big stages or where the crowds can be difficult to move/ 
Massive, dark and melodic, groovy, yet sturdy and strict, it resembles VOLTAGE's music sound signature in the best possible way. 

Steve Mulder's remix is a blast! Speedy, intense and with various elements of the classic techno tracks of the 90's. The Dutch producer is definitely giving his own approach to the original, creating a 5AM track impossible for the floor to resist!

Yan Oxygen's remix is darker, crisper and boosted with organic sound elements as well as clever pads and drones creating a more 'improv' result ideal for peak time! the Ukrainian producer really outdid himself on this one!

Huge bass pads bring out melodies that move and travel the audience while on the same time spacey strings and groovy drum patterns generate the antithesis that makes the energy circulate in this excellent track’s veins.

Thomas Schumacher’s (Drumcode / Noir) approach is manifested upon pure energy. 
Advanced engineering and authentic inspiration meet, to create a perfectly blended dark-as-the-gates-of-the-underworld killer groove and fresh rhythmical elements, all mixed along to forge a track destined to stir bedrocks and definitely question their structural rigidity!

D-Deck (Alleanza / Phobiq) inserts his life experience in music-making into his remix and totally transforms the track, generating a new existence. This is a 4 AM track, definitely made to move large crowds. Rigorous and stern, yet driving and melodic, it’s based on a solid drum pattern that concludes to an epic buildup where all melodic elements join the harmony and add their own perspective to end-up in a huge drop.

The iconic producer debuts on our label with an ingenious release. This 4 tracker showcases his creativity and passion for musical diversity.
First track of the release, 'I feel youth' is built around a solid, undoubtedly classic techno groove empowered by atmospheric vocals and clever melodic elements like seqs and synth stabs making it a 'headliner' track to play at peak time.

'Mephisto, the track that's given its name to the release itself, is made of pure Techno! Hard and at the same time spacey, it forces you to dance to its groove! It's simplicity is phenomenal since every single one of its elements is perfectly blended in it's unique character. Singe note shots, seqs, drones and hats in the 16ths will make you play on repeat!

'Hawk' is Wittekind's own interpretation of the evolution of Techno. Based on an arpeggio and distorted sound and melodic elements, this is an uncommon, impressive track that hypnotises the listener. In other words, it's the track that sets the rules imposing its presence within any set. 

'SQ1' is dark and moody. From it's first second to it's end, it's impossible to escape its atmosphere, since it immerses you into its character. With acid elements and unexpected drops, incredible bass line and strong and sharp high end, most DJ's will listen to it and say 'this is the one'.

About Jay Lumen:

Jay Lumen... Music is part of his life since his childhood years. He learnt music in 
conservatory for eight years, which provided a good basis to his ambition of making music. 
This ambition appeared very early, during the schooldays, when he started to turn compositions of classic authors to his own style, rather than playing the original versions of them. Although he was educated to play on a classic instrument - violin - he early recognized that his desire of creative work would not be realized with this kind of instrument. By getting his first computer, he immediately started to make his ideas to be heard. In the meantime he got to know the synthetizator in the way of self-education also, and as he obtained the newest technologies and softwares, he developed himself with them and got more and more closer to the sounding in which he felt himself familiar.
Nowadays, Jay Lumen is one of the most quickly developing new generation DJ/producers. As a producer he has nine No1, twentyfour Top10, and several Top20 charted tunes till now. His releases are coming out at the best international labels just like Drumcode (Adam Beyer’s label), Saved (Nic Fanciulli’s label), OFF Recordings, 100% Pure, Octopus Records, Cadenza, etc. He was the only one DJ/Producer in 2010 and 2011 who had 6 tunes (originals and remixes as well) on the Beatport's top chart at the same time and he did it again in 2012 as well.
In 2012 all his new releases and remixes have jumped to the Top10 charts of Beatport ! He is unique by this record all around the world just like in 2013 and it seems he continues this way in 2014 as well!

As DJ, he made his first party in elementary school, when he was only 14 years old. In the beginning he played his favorite tracks from vinyl, and later, following technical improvement he switched to use CDs instead of vinyl. 
In his DJ sets he builds from house, tech house, techno and deep style elements mostly. Dynamic, pulsating grooves and pleasant vocalic tunes are also featuring his sound world and are easily sensible to the listener, both from his tracks and sets.
The artist with classic musical prequalification is now one of the most famous and internationally appreciated new generation DJ/producers.

Now this remix by Nik Wel belongs to the different ones of the lot.
More proggy, with a scent of oldschool trancy feeling, uses a de-emphasized low end to attrack the main attention of the listener on the melodic parts. 

Nik used a lot of my original parts but he also overlayed his own acid bassline over the preset I used from U-he's Hive. The sound of the track is balanced and in terms of harmony, Nik nailed it. 
It's an atmospheric approach to my original and it has all the elements that a well made track should have.
Lastly, I would sidechain a bit less, cause I feel that this amount of sidechainning and gating belong to another genre, but it was totally his choice, based on his own aesthetic approach.

ANNA V. - Dark Energy (Nik Wel Remix)

Now here is another great approach by Hermann Hesse. This is a proper Techno version of the original, with lots of strength and power in it. 
The kick drum has a metallic feel and fits great to the subby main bass line.
Hermann Hesse chose to use mostly his own material in this version, a fact I deeply appreciate and created a track that's suitable for peak time. 

the mix is balanced, despite the use of aggressive elements, I would only go easier on the elements in the 1K to 2K region cause there's a lot of loudness and energy there, but overall it's a good mix.

So, Kadric's cut is more straightforward. It uses a classic techno kick layout, based on repetitions on 3rds and 7ths which is great for groove. 

He used mostly the acid bass line and my breathing and he chopped up the chords to make a drone layer - that was clever haha

His breakdowns are solid and wide and his return to the rhythm is being done with a huge bassey sounding synth that I can't really categorise.
The mix and master are excellent and the stereophony is really good.

Thomas Schumacher still burns with curiosity. The Berlin- based DJ and producer makes light of his status as one of the most enduring, versatile artists in electronic music. "What I love about Techno is that it demands that you question yourself, reinvent yourself." 
Thomas Schumacher is always pushing his own boundaries. "The art of being relevant," he says, "Is to forget what you know.” In his early days as an artist, he had to learn how to physically create the sounds he heard in his head. Now, as a virtuoso, the challenge is to use his breadth and depth of musical knowledge to convey profound emotion. "Techno is not just a tool to make people dance," he says.
